What foreign trade? The age of the protective tariff built the Northern industrial complex (as well as led to war).

Ding! Ding! Ding! That's the truth. Judge Napolitano talked about that last night how there were tariffs placed in Southern ports and the money was taken to be spent in the North.

Damn Damn Yankees deserve what they are getting now!

As well as the policy responses to the Panic of 1907 and the Great Depression leading to the two World Wars.

Or the Erie Canal that goes just past Ilion that brought goods to and from the Atlantic seaboard opening up much of the west. Remington was based in Ilion because that is where he lived and manufactured his first designs. Not because of illicit crappy government affairs. Remington from what I have been told by different camp members is a good company to work for, solid benefits and takes care of their own. Alabama is getting solid jobs in an area that appreciates the 2nd and it's rights afforded to citizens. You get what you vote for.

I wasn't specifically talking about Remington.

I think some companies are realizing they can lessen their tax burdens and or labor burdens (unions) while still staying in the US by moving South and it is glorious.

It is pretty awesome to see this all happening.
Hell, even foreign companies are building big plants and facilities in La and Texas for these reasons and cheap natural gas, etc.

one of the advantages the north had in the WNA was that almost all of the big gun makers were located in the north

looks like they won't have that for the next one

States like Alabama should enjoy while the can. There will come a time when companies leave Alabama for Mexico, China, etc.

That is how capitalism works. Soon greater returns on capital will be found in other countries.

this is putting hundreds of New Yorkers out of a job and you all are celebrating

So? It's putting money into Alabama's economy and creating a couple of thousand jobs there.

Tough luck on those in NY. I hope they make out ok. Should have voted with their brains rather than emotion.

This is how the free market works. This is how America works..we are celebrating the fact that the traditional way of showing opposition to certain laws is being used. Get up and move away and take your money with you. frick New York

We've seen it happen here as well. But return on capital can also mean economic profit more than just accounting profit.

The progressive and liberal plan is to get everyone to live in cities.

I understand the control, but if rural people have to move to the city for work, they aren't gonna magically vote Democrat. They'll actually be bitter that their way of life had to change so much..such a plan, if successful for liberals, would eventually cause cities to turn more red and their control would then be gone.

Yep, and one of the biggest reasons? No many job opportunities and not relocating out of their small, dead areas.

Yet, who keeps voting to send them more money?

Not so true. Much of the tax money goes to military bases and federal facilities.

I assumed he was talking about welfare.

If we are expanding it to corporate type welfare, then yes, military bases and farm subsidies are the main drivers.
