What foreign trade? The age of the protective tariff built the Northern industrial complex (as well as led to war).

Remington from what I have been told by different camp members is a good company to work for, solid benefits and takes care of their own. Alabama is getting solid jobs in an area that appreciates the 2nd and it's rights afforded to citizens. You get what you vote for.

one of the advantages the north had in the WNA was that almost all of the big gun makers were located in the north

States like Alabama should enjoy while the can. There will come a time when companies leave Alabama for Mexico, China, etc.

We've seen it happen here as well. But return on capital can also mean economic profit more than just accounting profit.

I understand the control, but if rural people have to move to the city for work, they aren't gonna magically vote Democrat. They'll actually be bitter that their way of life had to change so much..such a plan, if successful for liberals, would eventually cause cities to turn more red and their control would then be gone.

I assumed he was talking about welfare.
If we are expanding it to corporate type welfare, then yes, military bases and farm subsidies are the main drivers.
