This could get interesting.

The special district laws also apply to The Villages. Not to the local districts but to the ones which have all the golf courses and such, where Gary Morse set them up to where nobody lived in them and he (and now his heirs) could run them in perpetuity by having loyal employees on the "boards".

And remember, The Villages is a VERY conservative area. This could backfire badly.

Yep, I've been saying let's not throw the baby out with the bath water. We just need to remind Disney that its future doesn't lie with the latter half of the LGBTQWTF people who will never be emotionally stable enough to earn enough money to bring the kids they'll never have to a park they'll cry at when the line is over 15 minutes long. This shouldn't be anyone's target market unless you're building a Kevorkian theme park.

No. Universal is in a different part of Orlando. The one time my SO and I visited, she ended up hurting her foot, I found one of their employees and they wheeled her all the way to the parking garage for us. So their customer service is top notch.

Reedy creek district also means that disney has been able to approve their own construction permits for any renovations and/or expansions.

They have their own utilities, fire services.

This gonna be spicy

Are The Villages specifically under the Sandy Creek district?

Or are they under a different district and would potentially be revoked down the road?

They are not under Reedy Creek, so if the legislation only revokes that one they are safe.

But the tweet said they were looking to abolish all the "special districts". In The Villages, there are 13 local districts which are more like HOA's except they have governmental authority. These may or may not be affected.

However, in addition to those there are four others which have ZERO residents in them and which provide all the amenities that make the area so attractive. The latter four are the most in danger since they are currently run by the Morse family heirs (they have loyal employees appointed to their boards).

If they could just raise prices they would. They have already skyrocketed before the inflation really started taking off, and we are approaching a financial cliff. It's a hell of an expensive price to pay for them (that they cannot afford) to suck up to their small percentage of loser customers and Cast Members and the Pixar amorphous blobs.
They can afford it, unless the numbers are catastrophic, which I don’t see happening. At least for 4-5 years.

Disneyworld is extremely profitable, and Disney knows parents are unlikely to go protest at the gates day in and day out. Those parents have jobs and responsibilities. Much as we like taking our families to Disneyworld, we can vacation elsewhere. I say that as a parent with 20+ trips over the years, and canceled this year’s plans.

Liberals on the other hand can be at the gates every day doing everything possible to disrupt things and the media will feed it. Not wanting to deal with that bullshite will probably actually cause more people not to go.

Disney is betting those parents will relent and go back next year or the year after. They’ll be more careful about stepping too far out of the shadows until then.

They play a long game, and make decisions 5-10 years out. Never forget that about them.

Oh, and to add that there used to be an over 4000 page thread that told is Disney was evil as frick and what they were doing to children four fricking years ago.

That was covered in the first 50 pages of I remember correctly

UPDATE:

Just read DeSantis' proclamation calling for a special session: Governor DeSantis Proclamation

He's calling for a review of districts created prior to the new Florida Constitution being approved in 1968. The Villages didn't come into existence until well after that, so they should be safe.

Disney isn't even technically in Orlando. They are in Kissimmee.

Universal Studios Orlando is right across the street from Dr. Phillips High School.

Playing a long game is still risky as hell of there is an economy that makes luxuries like visiting your park out of reach for people.

And the Biden administration is crashing the economy either through intent or stupidity.

The Villages are a Community Development district - not a special district

Also, the House staff analysis says only 5 Districts are affected by the bill:

The following five districts appear to operate pursuant to a charter, which predates the 1968 Florida Constitution and was not reestablished, re-ratified, or otherwise reconstituted by a special act or general law after November 5, 1968:
· Bradford County Development Authority, Bradford County.
· Sunshine Water Control District, Broward County.30
· Eastpoint Water and Sewer District, Franklin County.
· Hamilton County Development Authority, Hamilton County.
· Reedy Creek Improvement District, Orange and Osceola Counties.

I saw the proclamation and it mentioned only districts created prior to the 1968 revision of the Florida Constitution. As The Villages didn't exist at that time (not in the current form it's in) they are safe. So they won't be turning blue any time soon.
