What are thoughts on Bodyguard 380?

I was looking for a pocket pistol with punch and a thumb (not trigger) safety.

This right here.

Wasn't sure about shotgun vs pistol for home defense but the consensus is pretty clear there.

A tactical shotgun is a superior close quarter weapon. There's a reason why they're used by SWAT. They're short (maneuverable) and they don't require pinpoint accuracy. Also, someone mentioned using birdshot and I agree with this. If you're talking home defense, birdshot would work well. You're not going to kill anyone with it most likely, but they will not want to keep up the fight after being peppered with lead.

Handgun, or rifle? What will it’s intended purpose? For home defense, you should get a shotgun.

I don’t want to get to technical but after years of using firearms I strongly recommend that you get the gat. That’s your best bet.

This sounds like a good immediate first step.

You don’t seem like someone who enjoys shooting or hunts. So just get a .357 revolver that fits your price range. Simple to use, very few moving parts, and low maintenance.

For an inexperienced individual looking for home defense, I’d recommend a pump action shotgun (I prefer Remington but multiple good options) with buckshot. At 2 AM in the dark you want to able to point it in the intruders general direction and feel confident you’ll connect, especially if you are not a marksman to begin with.

I’d also recommend a small, light pistol (really whichever you find most comfortable, options are nearly limitless) that can be kept near where you sleep and quickly accessed. I am very fond of S&W 9 mm.

Terrible fricking advice. Birdshot first home defense will get you killed. Would you use rat shot for your 9mm Glock? Store bought shotguns aren’t CQB guns. A 14” SBS would be okay but requires a stamp.

All of what you said is very true, but a .357 is a hand canon. I own one and it's definitely not my first choice for home defense. That fricker shoots fireballs out the muzzle. I shot it once without hearing protect and my ears rang for a day.
