Baris' recent polling shows nearly 53% of Democrats now consider themselves Democratic Socialists.

Cuba and Venezuela were two of the wealthiest Latin American countries until the communists took control. They are now among the poorest. Works every time.

The leaders of the dem trend are Marxists who want a lot more than a low Scandinavian dose of socialism. Freeloaders are always attracted to socialism.

Anyone think they will come back to the middle?

The veil is officially off.

They tested the democratic socialist label and it passed. They never stop moving left so what is immediately next?

When you consider health care, living wages, higher taxes for certain wage earners, public ownership of certain infrastructures, less individual freedoms, mandatory environmental action...green energy... it's probably closer to 90%

Functionally what does that really mean though? They probably want some form of universal health coverage which seems pretty sane.

They might want things like maternity leave mandated. Also not that crazy.

The United States is one of the only countries where these things aren't the norm. And if you think we're better for it then that's your opinion.

Why should I have to pay for your health care because you are too stupid or lazy to get it yourself?

My opinion is that you are simpleton who portrays himself with an air of intellectual superiority to hide his insecurities. My guess is I'm far from the only one with that opinion

This is what the average democrat wants. On its face, it seems quite reasonable until one starts to seriously examine how much it would cost to do

All of these fall into the category of "sounds good, doesn't work." Except for no school choice, that sucks through and through.

Ultimately all of these programs fail because of application, incentives and administration. There is truly no way that government entities can efficiently manage these things financially or systematically. There's no incentive for them to do so.

The larger problem with this model, as Europe is finding, is with immigration. People are no longer immigrating for a pathway to opportunity, they are immigrating for a pathway to entitlements. It becomes unsustainable every year with an endless need for more and more taxes.

If you proposed these ideas to anyone, they sound wonderful. How they actually function are disastrous.

Yes, clearly history shows us that all socialists want is paid maternity leave and they’re set.

Fedgov employees have had this since Trump's first term.

State of Mississippi just passed it too

I have health insurance through my employer

You don't have to worry about paying for anything for me

I think the universal healthcare issue is probably the biggest issue

And maybe other things like a 4 day work week. Which that shite is coming sooner rather than later anyway.

The actual healthcare, yes. The economic side of it, no.

But we also subsidize all of those countries that have "free" healthcare. We pay more here, so medical companies can offset the price controls in other countries.

We are also the leader in medical innovation because it is not worth the cost to innovate in a healthcare system with price controls.

We can shift to a single-payer system, but the quality of healthcare will decline, and advancement in medical technology worldwide will also decline.

It is easy to have limited Socialism around the world when US Capitalism is there to pay for it.

Someone like AOC winning is inevitable in the next decade. The corporate Democrats foothold will not remain forever.

That's not a socialist stance. That'll benefit employers, as it will drive down wages. ...which is a good thing for corporate America.

It also helps when the US was paying for most of their defense. Easy to have money for entitlements when you're paying less than 5% of your budget on the defense of your nation and simply assume that the UN / US would handle any potential issues.

There are a lot of countries whose budgetary model have long assumed that spending on defense was unnecessary because of the presence of the US.

Seems as if these are complex, yet solvable problems

We can continue to innovate. We just need to charge other nations more for our innovations.

There are bad people on both sides. Not all polls show the entire truth.

quote:

White Nationalist Sympathies: Some studies indicate that a portion of the Republican base sympathizes with aspects of white nationalism. A 2021 Newsweek poll found that roughly 23% of Republican men had a "very" or "somewhat" favorable view of white nationalists.

I think that 23% of Republican males is on the rise. If you’re not sure if you know people that share ideology with white nationalist watch the1998 movie American History X to see some of the things they believed 30 years ago. Things the White Nationalist say in the movie are on this board everyday. It doesn’t mean they are white nationalist, but it shows how a lot a people on the right share some of the same ideology on certain topics
