tl;dr version: Highest gun ownership numbers ever in Minnesota; lowest crime rate in 50 years

ST. PAUL, Minn. (WCCO) — Minnesota set a record last year for the number of gun background checks the FBI conducted in the state.
More people are carrying guns than ever before, but the crime rate remains relatively low. WCCO’s Pat Kessler is looking at the numbers, and giving them a Reality Check.
We took a hard look at the numbers, and found: Minnesota has a high rate of gun ownership, and a relatively low rate of violent crime.
Minnesota’s violent crime rate hit a 50-year low in 2016, according to the FBI.
And in 2017, the state set a new record for firearms background checks.
The National Instant Criminal Background Check System reports it processed nearly 683,544 checks on gun buyers in 2017. That includes: 473,975 permits, 94,383 handguns and 125,516 long guns.
Minnesota set another 2017 record, too.
The State Department of Public Safety reports 283,188 Minnesotans now have permits to legally carry firearms in public.

Id say Minn population is very homogenous and a vast majority share the same values compared to most other states.

According to the southern poverty law center there are fewer members of hate groups in Minnesota, per capital, than any state in the U.S. Given that white supremacists commit a size able number of violent crimes. According to the Fbi it's pretty easy to see the less white trash the less violent crime...

I’d say that more important to those statistics is people having jobs and purpose in life.
When you have more to lose you are less likely to turn to violent crime. Crime loves unemployment and cultural decay. Loves fatherless homes and the poverty plantation of welfare.
When you have skin in the game you are less likely to risk it for a quick score.

We would need more information to make a causal link between firearm ownership and a drop in violent crime rate. A 2015 study from the Journal of Preventative Medicine, which studied all 50 states, did not indicate that a higher level of ownership was linked to lower levels of violent crimes (defined by the study as firearm related assault, robbery or homicide). In fact it found higher rates of violent crime in states with higher gun ownership, which is either consistent or partially consistent with other studies done. What this means is something else entirely.
Looking at the numbers itself, the BCA data, which is reported to the FBI, it appears that what the media is reporting is the the total crimes index per 100,000, which is at a 50 year low, but not the violent crime index per 100,000, which at 242.6 per 100,000 is lower than 2015, but not lower than the lowest violent crime rate, which was in 2011. What is seemingly driving those rates, looking very quickly at the numbers, was a drop in property related crimes, which are reflected in the total crime index. The murder rate is relatively low at 1.8, which is very good for the US, but again 2011 was the low for that year as well.
