They did exactly what they were supposed to do in that moment. Cover Trump with their bodies until the shooter is neutralized. The situation was entirely different than Reagan. Trump wasn’t even close to his car and was completely exposed to a long range shooter.

I highly recommend the book "Rawhide Down". The author is the SS agent that pushed Reagan in the car, discovered he was hit, have the order to go to the hospital, and stayed with him until surgery started. Excellent book - you'll not want to put it down.
