Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) joined Maria Bartiromo on Sunday Morning Futures. During their conversation, Senator Paul scolded Joe Biden for wearing a mask on his international global warming calls this week, saying, “I guess this means that Dr. Fauci now believes you can get COVID, you can catch it over your webcam.”
Senator Paul then said Dr. Fauci must answer questions on why he funded dangerous human-viral testing even after it was banned here in the US.
Senator Paul, “There’s a huge ethical question about the origins of the virus. The ethical question is should we be doing gain of function, should we be upgrading animal viruses in the lab to make them more susceptible to humans… We have to ask Dr. Fauci, why did he in overseeing these labs allowed gain of function? Why did he allow labs to get money to upgrade animal viruses so they can infect humans? We got worried about this around 2 or 3 years ago. We closed down about half of them but then Dr. Fauci and his committees opened them back up. We need to ask him why are we doing this in China but are we doing this in the US?”

I doubt any of those Republicans have the testicular fortitude to go after Fauci on this.

Without Fauci and NIAID money, the research is likely not happening. So yeah, I find Fauci to be the primary fault if this was gain-of-function testing.

If we've learned anything over the last twenty years or so, it's that nothing will ever happen to any of these people. In a perfect world, heads would roll over this COVID bullshite, but they won't.

Was he actually in the approval/planning loop for this stuff going on in Wuhan??
Like - did he approve this action involving the GoF research in China?? - did he actually PUSH it??
If so - he had no business being anywhere close to our actions in trying to fight its spread.
I have always characterized Fauci as acting like some sort of 'mad scientist' who was running a personal experiment - and didn't want any "outside influences" to impact its course. I didn't know until the past couple of weeks that he had any involvement at all with the China labs.
Just how deep is this scumbag into this disaster?

It’s a daily caller link. But they’re reporting what a WaPo columnist is saying.
I don't see gain-of-function research has inherently problematic; it's critical in virology and takes place all over the world. I'd love to lay this at the feet of Fauci because I don't like him, but attributing this to him as opposed to the lab and Chinese authorities seems like a stretch. Maybe Fauci et al should have known better than to conduct this research there but that's about all I can put on him right now.
The problem is that China is essentially a black box, so the best we have to go on is speculation. I'm willing to accept that it escaped from that lab, and I'm willing to accept that the WHO has covered for China from Day 1, but it gets a little messier when we start assigning blame outside of that.

Any "gain of function" viral manipulation that makes human infection more likely should be banned out right with a stiff criminal penalty to go with it. If it was banned by NIH here and then financed in China with American money should result in criminal charges.
