This happened this past weekend. Rishi Sunak being quoted here is the Prime Minister of UK.

quote:

Rishi Sunak believes the rugby authorities should look “very carefully” at claims that a South African player threw a racial slur at England's Tom Curry, said on Monday.

Asked what the Prime Minister’s view about the alleged incident is, his spokesman said: “It’s rightly an issue that needs to be looked at very carefully by world rugby…we wait the response.”

World Rugby is reviewing the allegation of racism levelled at South Africa hooker Bongi Mbonambi by England flanker Tom Curry during their World Cup semi-final in Paris, the governing body said in a statement on Monday.

Curry alleged to the referee that Mbonambi called him a “white c***” in the first half of the Springboks’ 16-15 victory that has set up a final meeting against old foes New Zealand at the same venue on Saturday

Or maybe Curry should just ignore him?

The speech policing that’s currently taking over the UK is disturbing.

UK and Canada are good examples of what not having freedom of speech looks like.

I think you missed the point, the racial slur was from a black player to a white english player.

I don’t know to whom you’re referring, but I understood the initial point; I stand by my comment.

People who use racial slurs are douchebag muppets whose behavior speaks for itself.

For the leader of the UK (or anyone else), however, to believe an “authority” ought to look very carefully into another person’s speech—hateful, tho it may be—is ominous.

I agree that there is overzealousness in policing speech. But maybe it will take something like this to make it stop. I’m not holding my breath though.
