Question about the shooter’s gun

I know zero about guns. The gun that was used and found, can it be folded or pulled apart? The shooter jumped down from the roof but I didn’t see a rifle so it had to be in the backpack.
If he was able to carry it in the backpack why would he dump it in the woods?

So the guy was unable to throw the gun off the roof? Was that not possible for him to do?

This is my rifle, this is my gun…

It couldn’t be pulled apart and then shot accurately. With a screwdriver you could probably take the stock off to shorten it 6 to 8 inches but the barrel scope and trigger mechanism would remain in contact

If it is the gun that they showed a photo of then no. And I saw the gun in the video of him jumping down. He had a towel around it.

Wondering this as well.

Technically yes, practically no

Too simple

You can't carry a mauser bolt action in a backpack. He had it on his pants.
200yds is nothing for a 30-06 with a scope.
You can break down the stock from a bolt action, but not that quickly. You'd normally have to unscrew multiple connectors. It's not like breaking down an AR style weapon that can be separated or even folded done quickly.

I haven’t seen it, so I’m not sure, however, I’ve read that they have a video of him limping into the building. The barrel of the.gun was essentially shoved down his pants and that’s why he was limping. They also have video of him running after the shot was taken.
My guess is he threw it off the roof, picked it up, wrapped it in a towel, probably wiped it down, and then ran into people’s yards.

There are specialty platforms that can be broken down and reassembled in the field very quickly and retain zero, but those are mostly very high end military contract rifles such as an LMT, Barrett MRAd, etc.
Even an AR with a foldable stock and an 11.5" barrel can make a 200 yd shot withe extreme ease. In fact, most combat, zeros on 5.56 and 308 are zeored at 50yds, which has a back end trajectory cross-point of 200yds, so it's a point of aim, point of impact shot, with no holds, DOPE, etc, needed.
He discarded the rifle because it's just too cumbersome to run around with unnoticed.

I have several older rifles, mostly milsurp, one is sporterized.
The photo I saw looks a lot like something I saw recently (a few months ago), on RTI. Gun owners will know the site. They were selling sporterized Mausers in 30-06 for cheap.
I checked their site out, all the 30-06's are gone, they still have some Mausers probably in 8mm.

In comparison, this is the supposed rifle used in the shooting.
So, in a correct configuration, you have 2 -3 screws to take out the trigger guard and magazine plate, then barrel bands to fix the barrel to the stock. As you can see with the one I linked, no barrel bands to worry about. Pull the guard, remove the plate, lift the barreled action out of the stock. Reassembly, opposite. I can break it down if the bolts aren't stripped or stuck in a minute, can put it back together just as fast.
Depending on how the scope is mounted- if you can remove the rings without removing the scope from them, you then mark things to realign on assembly.
You could reasonably put this back together in 2-3 minutes at most.
As for ballistics and range, use this website LINK
Select a centerfire rifle, 30-06, pick something simple like Winchester 150gr Silvertip.
I figure the gun was sighted in at 25 yds, which would put the impact ABOVE point of aim at distance. If target is 200 yds away, you hit 2 inches high. 175 yds, 2.5 inches high.
In other words, if you aim at the upper chest, you'd hit in the neck.
