It's expensive to try to control a country that size that doesn't want to be Russian. They can't afford it. Infrastructure is expensive to replace. Ask the American taxpayer....
They bluffed for a peace deal which was done until Europe and the western allies fricked that up in feb/March.

I have no idea. I do know photographs of combatants is generally considered to violate the Geneva Convention, but I don't know how you could get visual confirmation of such a large number. The size of the number is enough for me to disbelieve it entirely.

Probably not. The 10k number was repeated for a few days on Russian Interfax but in reference to troop movements. The surrender bit might have originated from this account. LINK
