What's more troubling is people who own no property can still vote on property tax issues. See EBR CATS tax. If a socialist politician gets his/her way property taxes will be the easiest money grab.

Not saving for retirement is really dumb if for no other reason it's tax advantaged.,

You’re confused. You think you own the land. You’re just renting it from the government…until we fix corrupt elections and throw the bums out.
Bonus information- local municipalities hire consultants to “ back into” their revenue requirements, then they jack up property taxes to fill their gap. They use the same consultants across the country….

This is correct. There isn’t a place in the United States you can legally live without owing something hourly, daily, weekly, monthly, or annually. You can exchange work for living arrangements, but nothing is without a cost.

Yes we get his metaphor, but it is dumb and getting called out for obvious reasons.

Sure call it unrealized gains but since we're playing the apples to oranges metaphor game what do we call it when the new kid on the block has to pay a much higher tax rate versus the old timer whose been on the block for decades? After all the new guy's cost basis is much higher (less unrealized gains) but taxes are the same.

Would you be ok if your neighbor with an equal valued property paid a fraction what you pay in property taxes because he bought his house for much less 30 years ago?

Of all the forms of taxation, property taxes are the worst. It’s modern day serfdom. In Alabama, if you fail to pay your rent to the state, they auction that debt off to someone who will. Then, that person can file a lean against your property and ultimately force you out of your home.

frick property taxes.

I think you call it a "pending property tax revaluation."

You can start a non profit, do some good for the community and Avoid taxes. I would assume that as long as the non profit is operating. You would pay no tax on the property.

Not sure about the lean part, but LA auctions off property that has unpaid property taxes as well.

Right. That guy is then given a tax deed and all subsequent tax notices start going to them and not the property owner. After several years of paying the taxes, the tax deed holder can legally force a sale of the property to make themselves whole. The state is literally renting your property to you or someone that will pay them for it. fricking SERFDOM.
