I live in Mississippi - some say it is one of the most conservative states in the union. Studies say it is the most Christian state. The Democrat party here has almost no presence without African American churchgoers.

In 2011, I worked with a group promoting Amendment 26 - a constitutional amendment for personhood that would have eliminated abortion from this state. Some of the polls that were commissioned said the state was nearly 80% against abortion. The people running the campaign got very confident and let their guard down.

A group came in and started spreading a falsehood - that the Amendment would ban birth control. It would have done no such thing, but all of a sudden the polls started swinging. The leaders of the campaign were anti-birth control, although the amendment would not have banned it, they would not take the falsehood on directly. The amendment failed at the polls - it wasn't close to passing.

Enter these progressive times, where a sitting member of Congress has proposed something that would basically ban vehicles. The GOP needs to use this, because people may appear to support progressive causes, but when it comes down to it - they really don't believe in them if it makes their lives one ounce more difficult.

Just like the most Christian state wouldn't ban abortion because it may have banned birth control - I don't believe a lot of these "progressives" would be willing o give up cars entirely.

And as Liz Cheney masterfully pointed out- Cars and Planes would be banned for who? Like Obamacare, it wouldn't apply to the very group pushing for it.

That's the drawback for us conservatives - word-twisting. We're not good at it. You have to have a somewhat off-kiltered brain to come up with some of the word twisting that the liberal/progressives come up with. It is definitely way beyond my mental gymnastics.

Conservatives don't have the benefit of media air cover

Exactly.. This board gives WAY too much credit to the intelligence of the average American voter -- regardless of party affiliation

Simple question, then how did they get more votes in the last presidential election and how did they win by a huge margin in the mid terms? You might be confusing Mississippi for America.

Not really.

A perfect example would be the campaign in oppostion to the Houston Equal Rights Ordinance. While the ordinance certainly had some substantive flaws, its opponents did not focus upon those flaws. Instead, they portrayed it as an affirmative attempt to put pedophiles in restrooms with children and peeping Toms in changing rooms with women.

The campaign was cynical and entirely disingenuous. It was also entirely successful.

Your example seems to contradict your thread title.

One thing dimocratix know for a fact, is that the black constituency votes as a bloc, is easily swayed, and they’ll vote whatever/whoever the dimocratix hierarchy tells them to at a 85-95% clip.

You need to get out more. They do understand their base but its not the deep south anymore outside of the black community. Progressive values are embraced by a lot of people. They understand the voter and significant number of Americans agree with them on issues like abortion, immigration, and the fact that Trump is hated by a significant portion of the country.

Conservatives don’t have to twist the words of these Kooks.

In the past month they have affirmatively stated that they favor of infanticide, socialism, ISIS, and the elimination of steaks, cheeseburgers, airplanes, and our cars.

The ads write themselves.

The #GreenNewDeal and that Idiot with the Scarf are daily donations to the Trump campaign. And the best part is that these people have their heads so far up their asses that they have no idea.

And that just shows how many people in this country base their decisions on emotion instead of reason and rational thought.

We're a nation of spoiled children.

Look - I am MAGA a.f. but lets not pretend that roughly half this country sees it differently

Ya, that wasn't an attack on you. Just a general statement about the country.

I disagreed with Obama on just about all of his policies. I disagree with Trump on quite a few things as well. However at no point did I "hate" either one of them.

Only a petulant child hates a person because they disagree with their point of view. Unfortunately roughly half this country are nothing more than petulant children.

I don't hate Obama although I am seriously disappointed about the way he handled his second term, Trump gets all the shade thrown at him but Obama's race politics really drove this divide and led to Trump yet no one calls him out on it.

Except when issues like abortion, immigration, and gay marriage are actually put to a vote. The POLLS are progressive, the vote results are not
