Why not put our energy into fixing what we have instead of proping up a 2nd corrupt system?

I pay for private (Catholic) school x's FOUR. I agree that I shouldn't have to pay taxes that go to local public schools that are complete garbage.
I get it, I'm just not sure the unintended consequences will result in it being more affordable.

So we should give it to private for profit companies instead that have shareholders to answer to and are actually encouraged to steal from the taxpayer?
The private schools my kids attend have audits done annually by 3rd party outside firms. EVERY SINGLE CENT is accounted for. I know EXACTLY where and what my money is going to and for. I have no problem with that whatsoever. Best part about it is they take care of their own business and tell the government to GTFO.

Private companies are getting rich off education one way or another

You introduce me to a Democrat serious about fixing what we have, and I'll show you someone about to be kicked out of their party.
In addition, following your premise, no more Federal loans for for-profit colleges.

Because as a parent my mission is to ensure my child gets an exemplary education. The public school systems mission is to ensure every student gets the same mediocre education.
The two missions are at odds.

Or, it is a way to ensure public schools are doing their job. If they suck, parents can take their tax money (voucher) and send it to a well managed school. Of course, the accepting school would need to allow the kid to come.

Charter schools are owned by for profit companies that will cut corners, lie about attendance, and say whatever they need to to get paid. They don't give a flying frick about the kids education. They care about their stock price.

THIS, THIS, AND THIS!!!!
When I was in school (prior to high school) the teachers had no problem in beating our asses in the classroom if we got out of line. Frick the principals office. They handle their own business to make sure we "absorbed" the material they were teaching us because they cared. And teacher pay back then really sucked arse more so than it does now. I noticed a slight change once I got to high school in that it seemed like they were just there to finish out their time in the "system".
What we have teaching (some, not all) in public schools nowadays is people who are their for a check, extended time off during the year, and for a lifelong pension once they get the hell out.
The teachers at the schools my kids go to are held to very high standards and are evaluated every single year.
Let a public school teacher not do their job properly and try to remove them and see what that gets. A spot in administration somewhere making MORE money for doing nothing. Frick the public school system.

Good. Teach those little frickers about capitalism early.

The old "everyone gets a trophy" public school mentality. Look no further than the public/private split with the LHSAA.
Here's the kicker, public schools weren't always as bad as and like they are right now! Now think about why they're crappy like they are and as bad as they are right now, for a minute.................

Because you can't fix shitty parents. You can either move away from them or send your kid to private school. Public charters give another option to many who can't afford private.

It's interesting that if you live in a good suburban and wealthy public school district with good schools you don't necessarily want your money going to private schools and charter schools.
It's really only people who can't afford to foot the full bill for private school or don't have enough money to live in a better school district who want charter schools and public money to private schools.
The truly wealthy don't care about public money for private schools so that should tell you that it won't happen at a large scale. So there are exceptions like the Dutch reformed whack jobs like the DeVos family, but that is just to get votes.

It's called School CHOICE, AD. Kinda like an individual who gets food stamps being able to choose which private entity they buy their food from.
Kids need a proper start, especially those with virtually no educated or even moral-literate parent. Until the breakdown of the family unit is overcome...government/school essentially shapes the children.
Let honest competition decide which entity DELIVERS.

Chaerter schools is nothing other than a means to involuntarily take local tax dollars by shady closely held out of state entities. They drive local school boards into deficit, driving down the quality of education, especially in economically disadvantaged areas.
Posted on 1/23/17 at 9:26 pm to AggieDub14
Let's just say I generally agree with you on the publicly funded charter school issue - although in inner city neighborhoods - surely you don't agree that the shithole, "hell on earth" schools - figurative tumors on our major cities are the "best" we can do?
So, I don't fault people for trying something different. If the left would get out of the way of school choice, the market would decide winners and losers. (Hint: Union dominated propaganda schools would lose.)

I'm with you. I also have questions about the separation of church and state on this as well since lots of southern private schools are religious.
Same here though my concern is more that if a religious school takes the vouchers, have they given the government a legal right to dictate school policy (and possibly church doctrine)?
For example, could the government require that the church teach that some people are "born" homosexual (instead of such practices being "sin" in the eyes of the sponsoring church)? Or that all faiths are equal?

You're saying I have some real estate in your noggin? I'm honored.
Just busting your chops.
I'll wait until next year to try for number 7. Hopefully everyone can stay healthy.
