So he’s not talking about ending trade ties with the US?

What information/evidence are you looking at to make this determination outside of this guy saying some stuff?

They're not alone in wanting to distance themselves from the U.S.

This thread is highlighting Canada announcing that their relationship with the U.S. is damaged

We live in a society of global trade no matter how much people want to dream up some idea that we can be isolated. Major economies distancing themselves from the U.S. is not a win.

The thing you have to know about ASEAN is that other non Asian nations have wanted to join and trade with the ASEAN bloc.

i have not heard that in the speech

there's a 3 point plan of strengthening Singapore in just about every facet.

basically the world needs more collaboration.

Singapore has basically strengthened relationships with everyone (EU, ASEAN, etc.) except the US

so he did just mention near 100% tariff-free trading between asean countries i believe

that is the dream of many isnt it

Yes. But if we're left out of it due to our instability then that doesn't bode well for the U.S.

People don't want to admit it but other countries are looking at the U.S. as if we are a rogue nation right now.

Our relationship with Canada is a fricking one way street. So basically we called BS and put an end to,the gravy train. Now,they want to take, their ball and go,home.

When you consider that they aren't alone in this stance, you might begin to see how it is potentially very problematic.

So? We should capitulate to the communist Chinese because Singapore might not trade with us? Is that why your pearls are clutched?

Exactly. There shouldn't be any whining from anyone if things don't go our way either. This is exactly what was asked for whether people realized it or not.

frick singapore they charge us 9% consumption tax and we charge 0 % tariffs so Trump now charges them 10%

U.S. goods exports to Singapore: $46 billion
U.S. goods imports from Singapore: $43.2 billion
Trade balance: $2.8 billion surplus

I asked Grok about Lawrence Wong ending trade ties with the U.S. and here was its reply:

quote:

Despite some sensationalized posts on X claiming Singapore might “end trade ties” with the U.S., there is no credible evidence from official statements or actions to support this. Wong’s speeches and policies focus on adaptation and resilience, not severance. For example, he has highlighted the historical success of the U.S.-Singapore FTA, which has tripled bilateral trade and supported 270,000 U.S. jobs, indicating a desire to preserve beneficial aspects of the relationship.

So just so I understand correctly, when Trump suggests cutting ties or implementing tariffs between countries it’s bad but when other countries suggest do that because they don’t like the reciprocal arrangement it’s also bad ?

No. You would have to be one of the dumbest people in all of the river parishes to come to that conclusion.
