As a politician would you make that call? Probably not.

Sorry but you are wrong here. We were all about the Iranians when the Shah was in power. And you are right, they are caucasians and feel a need to recreate their dominion in that region. But the radical Muslims won the internal struggle and will not rest until they destroy Israel and hurt he USA badly. And it is a minority of the people in power. They likely would have ran the radicals off had Obama stepped up and supported them. But he didn' which leads to a suspicion of sorts as to his motivations. Now we have to deal with the devil that is, not the folks we wish were in charge. Were those folks in charge we likely would support a stabilizing and powerful Persian sphere.

Why should we care what happens to Israel?
Why is that our problem?
When was the last time Iran or Iranian agents attacked a American civilian target?
They aren’t a threat.
The Saudis are though.

He’d show real leadership by putting sanctions on the Saudis. Our relationship with that country is pretty sickening, and I remember when this was a dealbreaker when it came to Hillary for many Trump voters on this site.
Our ME policies continue to be a shitshow. It's embarrassing.

Even if there was a revolution, the next government would undoubtedly pursue a similar foreign policy.
Their policies are driven by their interests. And those interests won’t change.
I wish people understood this.
For the most part, their interests haven't changed from before the Shah's era. The Shah's secret police morphed into the one of the mullahs, and the desire for regional hegemony, especially in terms of being the center of Shia Islam, were started during the Shah's era.

We were able to topple Mosadegh because he was unpopular.
The current government is actually popular. It speaks to traditional conservative Persians. The people who don’t like marching, and who often live in the countryside.
Any attempt to overrthrow the government would have united Iranians, across ideological lines.

Any Iranians gains come at the expense of Saudi Arabia, and the Arab states.
Iran’s rise is inherently destabilizing, and will result in conflict.

It doesn't just come down to the Iranians. You short sighted folks don't freaking get it. This is about the USA and Russia. The Russians desperately want us out of the ME so they can control, and they would brutally control it, the oil and the massive energy supply for much of the world. It would be a game changer. I don't expect the Trump haters to be able to see past their petty little hatred. But there is a far bigger, more over arching goal here. Ever since Texaco (I believe) went in there and developed the industry the Russians have done everything they could to drive a wedge between us and the energy producers.

And so Saudi Arabia therefore gets a free pass to frick us whenever and wherever they choose?
Is that your position? It sounds like that’s your position.

BS. Where were you when the streets were full of protesters just a very few years ago. Begging for American support. I employed hundreds upon hundreds of young Iranian males from 1984 to 2000. Many of whom are wealthy Americans now. And to a man they wanted the Mullahs out of their lives. Most were fleeing them and many, many of them got their families out of there. They would tell tales of how the people there were misunderstood as to their feelings about America.

"Real leadership" to Republicans is making sure their weapons industry overlords keep their profits, human rights and America's standing in the world as a moral guardian be damned.
