Most of the mail I get is junk mail.

Well, you are wanting a government entity to operate like a business... With advances in technology the employment numbers in USPS should be going down, not up...

They need to triple the rates on junk mail...

The look of perplexity on the face of the head of USPS over simple math only highlights the problem in these people.

SIR…. You’re down 80% and you just hired 190,000 new employees. What part of that is perplexing?

190,000 new employees at $50,000 a year is $9,500,000,000. Wow.

I’d be delighted if I only got mail once a week. It’s pretty much all junk, and the rest typically isn’t anything requiring an immediate turnaround. Once a week is plenty. I go to a UPS store to drop outgoing mail - don’t trust our deliverers - often (maybe twice a month), we get a neighbor’s mail and run around dropping it in their box.

Maybe, just maybe, if i send a letter to my next door neighbor... they shouldn't send it off 120 miles just to have it come back 120 miles before it can be delivered 25 ft.

Agree, mail is down, but package delivery is way up and routing is probably up as well.

I’m certain there are inefficiencies, however, so I think replacing the FedGov attitude worker with all private workers would be great.

I was thinking the same thing. Instead of receiving 5 or 6 letter size envelopes, people are receiving 1 or 2 packages. Quantity is decreasing but the overall size is increasing. Requires more truckloads to transport.

Any conversation about the USPS without at least presenting these figures is intellectually dishonest.

DHL, Fed EX and UPS do most of the packages.

Another government idiot in charge. The mail is 80% junk and it charges a bulk mail rate to send that crap to your home. Try to get off junk mail lists, you can't do it. The retirement and health benefits are bloated and that's why it loses billions every year. Just shut it down, it would be replaced in 30 days.

Yeah he actually has his own logistics company with contracts with the USPS.

Also this is the guy that caved for the 2020 election and then caved on wanting to purchase mostly gas vehicles vs electric vehicles.

And crazy how the climate change nuts get mad about this but not the fact that 90% of mail is just trash mailers that go in the trash. You could cut down on carbon by eliminating that. Need less trips to peoples mailboxes too.

There are days just one envelope of junk mail is in my box. So they literally come out everyday just to put one piece of trash in your mailbox.

What I gathered from that conversation isn't that they added 190,000 employees to their total workforce inappropriately, it's that they took on 190,000 workers on full benefits instead of using them as contractors who wouldn't have access to the full benefits and pensions, aka making the same worker more expensive than it needed to be at an organization drowning in costs.

The total workforce could have remained the same. It is unclear if USPS truly added 190,000 workers to it's total workforce (insourced + contracted workers), but from context that doesn't appear to be true.

Agreed but maybe they need to relook their package delivery prices, especially for Amazon...

And my mail lady comes whenever she pleases, and sometimes she does not show up.

They caught her stealing packages....USPS is an awful, unreliable service... and the price keeps going up, while the service drops.

The Biden admin pushed this practice to prop up the cratering private sector job numbers.

I shite you not. I was getting something out of my car when the mail arrived. So I walked up and said hello and got the mail from her. As she pulled away another car pulled up with a very small package that could fit in the mail box.

It was a mail man "Helping". That's literally the dumbest shite I have ever seen.

The 80% stat he used in that video was first class mail. I'd be curious to know the volume of standard mail and whether that has also declined. Not that it would ever justify bloating govt by that much regardless, just seems like it'd be part of the conversation considering someone needs to deliver it.

At the end of the day I think it's as simple as "it's taxpayer money so there's always more, we're not expected to not lose money, and the more we hire the bigger the union gets." I think the union piece is a huge part of it given the administrations we've had in office 12 of the past 16 years.
