https://www.dailymail.com/news/article-16170969/Burnham-triple-shock-PM-gambles-Labour-electoral-prospects.html

quote:

Andy Burnham gambled with Labour's electoral prospects yesterday.

The Prime Minister vowed to scrap the pension triple lock, unpick Brexit and tear up Britain's voting system.

In a seismic first speech to Labour's annual conference, Mr Burnham said he wanted to 'break the mould' of British politics and reverse Thatcherism.

quote:

He pledged to axe the triple lock, which has protected the value of the state pension, to help pay for a National Care Service to deliver social care.

In an emotional address, the PM fought back tears as he dedicated the policy to his father Roy, who died this month after spending his final days in a care home with Alzheimer's.

The triple lock raid will cost pensioners £15billion a year by the end of the next decade.

But government sources said unspecified tax rises would be needed to help fund the grandiose plan.

Sources also admitted the new service will cover only personal care, not residential costs, meaning some Britons will still have to sell their homes to pay for care in later life.

quote:

Mr Burnham also announced plans to reverse Brexit, which he claimed had done 'more harm than good'.

A series of 'options' for Britain's future relationship with Brussels will be published before the two sides meet later this autumn.

These are expected to include embracing the single market and customs union, and even rejoining the EU.

quote:

In a triple whammy of reforms, the PM also revealed that Labour will fight the next election on a pledge to tear up Britain's first-past-the-post voting system.

A national commission on electoral reform will devise a new system, which will then be put in Labour's next manifesto.

The announcement marks the biggest shake-up of the electoral system in more than 100 years.

Electoral reform is favoured by the Lib Dems and the Greens, and could open the door to a succession of 'rainbow coalitions', locking the Right out of power.

The scale of the commitments – and the frequent references to the next Parliament – triggered fresh speculation last night that Mr Burnham is gearing up for an election next year.

Kemi Badenoch accused the PM of wanting to 'take Britain back to the 1970s'.

He was silent about the immigration issue and rape gangs.

They sure like their taxes. They need to refresh the tree of liberty over there

My coffee dealer made a new blend and posted the background story

Samuel Whittemore

On April 19, 1775, as British Regulars retreated from Lexington and Concord, a 78-year-old farmer named Samuel Whittemore faced a choice….

He could stand by and watch the British march past his home, feeling powerless, or he could take a stand for his beliefs and become an active participant in the fight against British rule.

Whittemore chose to fight.

Armed with his musket and pistols, he positioned himself behind a low stone wall…
As the Redcoats advanced, he took a deep breath and fired his musket, bringing down one soldier. He then drew his pistols, shooting two more before British troops overwhelmed him….

In that moment, a musket ball struck him in the face, and as he fell, he faced a brutal attack from the soldiers who stabbed him more than a dozen times.
Though left for dead, Whittemore’s spirit was unbroken….

He survived this fight and went on to lead a full life, passing away at the remarkable age of 96 in 1793.

New blend dropping in his honor shortly.

Been buying his coffee over 5 years and he has never wavered. Makes all to order so it takes longer to get but is fresh. His X account is a fun follow.

I actually agree with him on trashing “first past the post”, but I doubt we would agree on what should replace it.

Getting rid of the triple lock is likely necessary, but not to pay for the nonsense Andy is trying to buy with it. This is nothing more than raiding government pensions to launder to “refugees” through fraudulent healthcare schemes.

Reversing Brexit has always been a goal of the Labour Party, which was staunchly opposed leaving the EU from the beginning. In addition, Andy cannot afford to wait any longer as Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland are all considering seceding from the UK to join the EU. Those provinces all elect PM’s that tend to join Labour coalitions and support Labour MP’s. Labour can only hold onto power by delaying elections and ensuring Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland don’t withdraw their PM’s from Parliament.

One has to wonder what happened over there. They love to hate Thatcher. They even made a shitty movie where they depicted her as an elderly invalid in order to diminish her.

In truth, she's the last decent PM they had. And despite their Eton and Oxford educations, none of them seem remotely intelligent enough to step off the train to ruin. It's as if they want the whole thing to collapse.

There’s a lot of debate about Thatcher. Conservatives see her as buying Britain time, but doing so at the expense of Northern England, Wales, and Scotland. Thatcher’s policies were even more disastrous for the mining communities and industrial towns as similar American policies were to the coal belt and rust belt, respectively.

Labour voters saw Thatcher as the destroyer of what was known to be “the British way of life.” They don’t believe that their country was heading off a cliff and that Thatcher pulled them back from the brink. They saw an England that was fine, Thatcher steering them off a cliff, and then manufacturing crisis as a way to dismantle public services and sell government assets to private sector cronies.

I personally see Thatcher as having bought England a good 20-30 years of runway to fix their internal problems (which Tony Blair lit on fire), but that she was a tough pill to swallow for a people who “won the war”, but lost their Empire and prosperity in the process.

The left is accelerating things. Every time they get power they try to rig it to make it harder to unseat them.

who is really running that country? whether labor or tory, they all are doing the same things. globalist things. there has been a steady turnover of prime ministers and none of them are working for the people. it is almost that way here. remember when the republican senators had the votes to get rid of obamacare until john mccain gets off his deathbed and gives the big thumbs down. keeping obamacare.
