If we’re talking raw firepower, Clinton and Nixon seem several levels ahead of the rest.
For all of the issues I have with Clinton’s ideological proclivities and personal shortcomings, it is still amazing what he managed to accomplish coming from where he did.
Nixon managed to out-think and out-scheme even the brightest minds of his day, both domestically and internationally, and many of them will admit it.

Literally a Rhodes Scholar.

What Kind of smart? I’d say Eisenhower. He saw the Military Industrial complex for what it was and tried to warn us. Probably one of the few Good Presidents we had in the last 100 years

We overvalue credentials in the United States. At this point, it's almost as if they're noble titles.
I knew two Rhode Scholars at UVa, both were hard working and credible individuals. They were not the smartest, funniest, or most interesting people in the room though.

Carter was the smartest, but least effective President in the last 50 years.

I’d vote Carter for the smartest and probably the most honorable person too.
He was also the worst by a long shot.

JFK
He was smart he was rich he was a world traveler as a young man. He had constant health problems and a serious skirt chaser and was not really dedicated or disciplined. But I think his brain power was amazing.

Carter would probably have the highest IQ if tested.

Been watching them since the mid-'60s.
Nixon is the answer.
And, like Trump, the swamp of that day hated him.

Jimmy Carter was a nuclear physicist. That didn't stop him from being a disaster as president though.

Obama was simply a good orator.
People keep saying this. He wasn't. He was a complete wreck without a teleprompter and his cadence could put a hyper baby to sleep with ease.

Plus anyone who lists "community organizer" on their resume is likely not smart. I challenge the biggest Obama fans to tell me the most inspiring thing he said in a speech that wasn't aimed directly at winning an election.

One preceded the other and becoming president didn't increase his IQ one point. He's apparently good at making stupid people think he's smart, and for that I give him credit.
