Why do you want that information?
...to evaluate your assertion that his actions were a result of systemic issues. 13 pages in, and I hit the bullseye when I said you wouldn't answer the question. I suspect you will try to lie about it eventually.

congratulate yourself for not being born to his parents
You accidentally revealed yourself. You have dehumanized him to the point where his fate was sealed when he was born.
Why would someone who presumably is there to help people hold opinions that value those they want to help so lowly? The answer is that your motivation isn't in helping...it's in viewing yourself as a helper.
The guy who posted the Khaleesi image is exactly on point,. That's how you view yourself.
All of your work is worthless. You've never helped anyone. You don't care about the students...in fact you have completely dehumanized them. They are closer to pets. You aren't a good person.

I’m only one person. I’m sure your smug judgment is more impactful.
Says the person who keeps trying to rub everyone's else's nose in "systemic oppression of others" and "privilege".
Life isn't that hard. I have seen people who I'm surprised can feed themselves do it. Hell. I went to junior high school with a guy named Brian that was still sometimes spelling his name "Brain" in the 8th grade. He is married, two kids, two vehicles, owns his own home, and has been continuously employed since graduating high school. And never been to jail.
You bleeding hearts react to the young black population calling others "acting white" when they are applying themselves as "expressing their culture". The same for the thug image.
Then you idiots come here and throw around "systemic issues" and "privilege" when they are arrested multiple times.
GTFOH with your high and mighty shite. Bring him into your home if you are so damn worried about it.

but y’all just don’t know what some people are up against. And as much as this board loves to deny that systemic issues exist, the obstacles are systemic and they are not addressed by message board lectures about personal responsibility
This cant be your first disappointment and it certainly wont be your last.

My dad was in and out of jail when I was growing up. He was given 100s of chances and all sorts of people tried to help him. But life is all about choices. And he finally made the choice of shooting his 19 year old girlfriend in the face over $80. The vast majority of criminals cannot be saved

Driving without a license with some additional add-on charges that are similarly impactful of others.

Right. I get attached to people. It sucks to see someone you care about ruin his life through stupidity.

So it was stupidity and not systemic racism after all? Glad we got that hashed out.

Okay, finally!
Maybe when he's released you can guide him towards getting his license. And perhaps speak with him on other, similar "getting his stuff in order" things before he makes another mistake.

It's a driving offense, help him understand better choices and keep working with him- he might be fine. You said he's bright and hardworking, with guidance you may just be able to polish that diamond.
I *am* glad to see you admit that this was a choice based error on his part rather than some systemic conspiracy to keep a brutha down.

Who claimed systemic racism played any part in this? I missed that post.

So this individual’s “transportation issues” were just that he didn’t keep his license legally intact?

none of my student's charges or convictions are violent and he's still stuck in pre-trial detention because cash bail doesn't always make sense.
Repeat offenders shouldn’t get bail

They blew their second chance, which is not surprising. You can’t take the jungle out of the animal

You claimed systemic "issues" and "demographics".
Driving without a license is a choice, not a "systemic issue".
This board can't "solve" issues such as a kid failing to get his license, there's really not even much to discuss or debate about it, because it was a CHOICE.

Yeah... I was trying to be positive and leave that out, lol.

Despite any pushback from posters, you make a valid point about the ease of pontificating from a distance or virtually on a message board.
It’s also true that the politicians in power, including Trump, don’t have to deal with the same consequences as most Americans.

Why go there?
Why imply that this board has an irrational and uncritical loyalty to Donald Trump? Because it does.
quote:
If you're contending the legal system similarly treated your student unfairly,
I'm contending that both my student and the President of the United States have felony convictions yet I never see this board do anything but excuse or explain away Trump's convictions while lamenting on the "bad choices" of people like my student. Trump already has every advantage and he still has legions of strangers defending him while marginalized people are ridiculed and blamed for being in the same boat (securing a felony conviction).
quote:I didn't play into any social injustice angle. I didn't make excuses for him. I am frustrated by the realities of this world we all inhabit.
Playing into the social injustice angle at the expense of even minor de-emphasis of the role of personal responsibility may not get your students where you'd like them to be.

Trump is going to be fine. Yet he’s the one with legions of strangers who devote significant portions of their days to defending him online. Meanwhile, I am preemptively frustrated by the red tape I will have to clear just to go visit my student in jail. It’s depressing.
What about the legions of strangers who spend significant amount of time and mental energy hating him both online and in person?
Such as the case manager you mentioned in your post.
You are correct that people waste way too much time on national and international issues when their day to day is impacted locally. Help your neighborhood, help your school, help your school district, help your city council…this is where time and interest should be invested
