Estimated time from launch to Guam is 14 minutes. It takes some of that 14 minutes to determine where the missile is headed (general direction of Guam) and an actual impact point will take longer to determine.
So, in essence, once it is launched no one outside of DPRK will know what the payload is and where the impact point will be - 14 minutes is not a long time to make a decision...

I imagine the range depends on how long the missle engine fires and you can only determine a specific target/range once it's simply a ballistic payload with no further thrust. How long into the flight do the engines fire?

Exactly what I was thinking. Have they ever tested on a long trajectory out in the Pacific instead of straight up and down in the middle of the sea of Japan? I don't think they have. This would be a good test.

Not a chance. Like many have said, they have one shot, and even if they were stupid enough to use it against us, it sure as hell wouldn't be against Guam.
I wish everyone would realize that all of the media attention and fear is what NK craves. They want to feel like a big time legitimate nation with power.
