Not in the true sense, no...of course not. But in comparison to straight up propogandists like we have today, yeah 100%. Presidents and their press secretaries would routinely get raked over the coals by these older reporters and never have been so blatantly on the take for one party like today.
Sam Donaldson was such an aggressive dickhole that even SNL made fun of him in this skit.
