This only made me remember the German Shepard I bought many years ago in pet store. She wasn't going to win any dog show for form, but she was amazing smart and dedicated.

quote:

Beginning in 2024, New Yorkers won’t have to worry about how much the doggy costs in the store window.

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul signed Senate Bill S1130/Assembly Bill A4283 into law on Thursday. The legislation will prohibit retail pet stores from selling dogs, cats and rabbits.

The purpose behind the measure is to put a stop to so-called “puppy mill” breeders who use abusive tactics and supply animals to retail outlets. Proponents say animals bought at pet stores are often sick, and can cost their new owners significant amounts of money to properly treat their new family members.

I don't know how effective this will be in stopping puppy mills. I'm sure those who run them will just adjust how they sell their animals. You should always buy pets from a reputable breeder anyway.

Another stupid Democrat law.....

The law should go after the puppy mills, NOT the pet stores!

What happened to common sense?

Yes, if you want the dog to have puppies. I always get my dog neutered and I don't want to pay the price of breeders who expect you to recoup your loss by breeding.

I always visit privately run rescue shelters. But I examine the dogs carefully and if I'm not certain about the majority of it's mix then I go to another shelter or just come back later.

Ah usual, the tears are about the poor dogs and cats.

But in reality these tears are used to suffocate people's lives of enjoyment and happiness.

Control what the people can buy and do.

I prefer mutts from the shelter, but if you want a pure breed definitely buy from a breeder.

At what point does our society have enough laws? Seems like they just pass laws for the sake of saying they did something, and then pat themselves on the back for saving the world from people.

I'm way more interested punishing/ monitoring the puppy mills, rather than where the pets are sold.
I guess the puppy mill lobby was able to deflect.

I'm sure the surrounding states will thank you for the increased income.

hey just pass laws for the sake of saying they did something,

That is part of it - but the sinister part is that tyrannies love to have myriads of 'laws' - that they can use to persecute any opponent while using 'discretion' when the 'law' may effect what they want to do (or have their lackies do)

The current 'save our democracy' slogan is a perfect example of the democrat playbook.

Import millions of non-citizens in direct violation of the law (with the goal of making 'voting' people out of them.) meanwhile any state that tries to actually enforce the law will find themselves under attack by the fedgov because 'that' law is entirely THEIR province - and they can use their 'discretion' on how to enforce it.

This entire immigration 'problem' is the long term solution to the 'voter' problem they discovered back in the 70's when they realized their agenda was no longer tolerated by the ACTUAL POPULATION of the country they wanted to subdue = so enter immigration 'reform'.

Just one of the myriad of 'law' misapplications the dems have used - now they are just being more open about it - flouting their power. They can no longer be hindered by these things they call 'elections' = they got that one covered.

It may have some small effect by pushing those running the mills to move their mills just across state lines, but all it's really going to do is push that business underground.

"Hey, where did you get that puppy?"
"Scranton."

Not all that difficult. Also, there's a shitton of rural area in upstate NY where breeders can fly under the radar.

This is nothing more than "feel-good" legislation pushed by a weak Governor who has done nothing thus far but fail her state economically on an epic scale.

Dogs shouldn’t be sold in pet stores

Good. They shut down that trash pet store in the Siegen plaza that used to do it

My favorite puppy mill example is in Orlando not too far from the airport.

Right next to a Chinese restaurant there is a sign that says “Puppies for sale”.

It’s on Colonial Drive right across from Total Wine and More.

Clear dems are allergic to common sense and addicted to ideology over reality.

I’d bet few people disagree with you.

Now explain why/how it’s government’s role to legislate it.

I'm not a dog person, but all three cats we've owned have come from breeders. You always have to pay more if you intend to breed. We just want a good kitty. Pet quality kittens are usually $1000 and up, depending on the breed. We have a ten week old Scottish Fold kitten. He was $2000. Worth the money because you know what kind of pet you are getting. Our little dude is awesome so far. It's a roll of the dice scooping up some random parking lot cat for a pet.

You did see "NY" in the OP, didn't you?

They have exhibited so much common sense they have had a population exodus to red states.
