this thing covers so many bases

1. defending the loopholes in the tax code for high-tax states and how they make low-tax states subsidize their lavish spending

2. defending public education

3. attacking private education

4. creating class warefare that doesn't exist

5. creating another political "war"

6. warping words to manufacture a "tax break" for something that isn't true (529 Savings accounts aren't solely for private education)

pure sophistry aimed at the LCD of the left. i'm literally shocked he didn't work "1%" in there

He has a problem with poorer people being able to afford private school

Now how much do you want to bet he went to private school?

Personally, I hope he's right.

Public education is nothing more than an SJW indoctrination program.

Pretty funny considering that he actually believes it's the government's money.

so, I send my kids to private school, but also pay for public schools through my taxes...

And now I will get a tax break on my private school tuition costs, while still paying the same for public schools....

whats the fricking problem?

He's wrong. The first $10,000 in state and local property taxes, much of which goes to public schools, is still deductible from taxable income for those who itemize.

It comes down to this for libs. Teacher's unions and their survival trump education opportunities for underprivileged children.

I have no idea. The government finances magnet schools in Little Rock. A magnet school is where smarter students in the system are accepted for their intelligence and are grouped together at certain schools so as not to be burdened by the slow learning processes of the less intelligent. Nobody and I mean nobody is against this program.

Funding private schooling is the same exact thing.

Not to mention that the standard deduction -which the vast majority of the middle class takes - doubles.

yeah 70% took the old one, i bet that goes up a bit to like 80-85%

so this means that only the very top even face these deduction eliminations, which means the rich get taxed more (theoretically)

The tax break for private schools is the worst part. You still have to pay for local taxes they just won't be deductible on federal return.

This tax bill is the ultimate example of people that have no idea what they are talking about trying to dominate conversation. I'm a CPA, and have been very surprised at all the experts in tax law on my FB feed that graduated in English

Depends. Property tax is still deductible up to $10,000. Plus, for most middle class filers being able to deduct private school costs plus property tax up to $10,000 will be a higher deduction than just straight state income tax.

And they aren't for secondary education at all.

Cruz's Amendment changes this. Under the Senate Bill, 529s can be used for private tuition for grades k-12 (or college tuition). This effectively allows private school parents to deduct $10,000 from their taxable income for private school tuition (not sure if it is $10,000 total or per 529/child.)

Public education helps millions of people get a good education. If you don't like the content you can talk about that but to attack the idea itself is insanity.
