I call BS. This sounds like an choreographed narrative of events.
Why is this just now coming out in a drip to news medi? This is typically how they float a trial balloon to see how it is received.
Why was this not mentioned during the FBI news conference Saturday night? A fact of this consequence would surely have been know to everyone at that time.
Why did the local police not release this information in a press conference instead of dripping it out?

Think about this- perhaps him going up there to check, not getting shot in the process…because police body armor doesn’t stop a rifle round…..
So we have an element of self preservation at play here…
Maybe just that interaction….
We don’t know what was said up there- maybe that put the shooter under enough stress that he ultimately missed.
Staying in the fight is key.
It’s easy for everyone to be an armchair quarterback and internet tough guy until some wacko points a rifle at you on a rooftop.

If some leftist soy boy points a gun at me, I’m pulling my own fire arm and getting shots off.
The chances are the soy boy has never been under live fire or around weapons. He is likely to miss even if you don’t hit him.
