In Europe, you may have to wait weeks or months to get a routine test or even a doctor's visit. You want to wait months to see if your knee has a torn meniscus? Or worse, wait months to see if that lump is malignant and then wait more months for treatment if it is malignant? Or even worse, your treatment is denied because the state decrees that it is not worth the cost and effort to save you?

Government does not have a good tract record running things efficiently and cost sufficient. Think post office, military waste, and VA system.

Have you ever been to a VA or military branch medical clinic? If so, you'd know why you don't want the government being a healthcare provider.

Because it is crap. Have you ever spent a day in the old Charity Hospital in New Orleans or the VA? If you did, you would not be asking such a naive question.

Just like the post office, DMV, public school systems, any government run entity will be the most inefficient use of resources the only way they function at all is they can continually throw tax payer money at a problem without concern for profit or other accountability.

1. It will either bankrupt federal govt or require MASSIVE tax increases that will destroy the economy and bankrupt everyone. The reason European countries can afford socialized healthcare is because most European countries have a higher % of middle class and less lower income class. More people contributing to tax base instead of draining it. Also, they don’t spend as much of their government’s budget on military spending since the US basically subsidizes Europe’s defense.

2. Outside of military, what has the government ever done better or more efficiently than the private sector?

3. If you end up with a serious disease, do you want some government office deciding whether or not your treatment will be approved or denied coverage? ie. Rationing of coverage

4. It will deter people from entering medical field careers because if the government is the only health insurer then they can force hospitals and clinics to accept whatever lower prices the govt insurance will pay. Quality of care will diminish and won’t have as much money to fund R&D or to get the best and brightest into medical careers

Have you ever been to the dmv? Would you let any of those people run any part of your health care?

Yes. Death Panels. Palin was knocked for using that term, but it is accurate.

1. We can not afford it.

2. The government can not run anything.

3. Go away alter.

The only way single payer would work here, is to slash the compensation to doctors, hospital systems and pharma. Good luck with that. The swamp won't allow it.

You need those panels. A bedridden 75 year old with chronic lung disease and end stage renal failure does not need dialysis 3 times a week. A bedridden, demented 80 year old who rolls out of bed at the nursing home and fractures a hip does not need a hemiarthoplasty. They need hospice. These scenarios happen EVERY SINGLE DAY in this country and cost a fortune. It isn't good for the patients and it isn't good for the system. It's prolonged torture that costs millions of dollars a year

Simple answer, let the rich buy platinum plans. Free for basic coverages for all

We pretty much have that now.

The people that want universal healthcare in the United States at least seem to think but it means everybody is going to eat the same care that their doctor gets

The person who makes healthy choices in life is required to throw in for the unhealthy choices of others.

Think of all the fat people on this board. Why should I be forced to pay for their insulin down the road?

Much of the American health expenses are self-inflicted by shitty life decisions.

Actually, the bulk of healthcare costs accrue in the last several years of life, regardless of how that life was lived...in fact, a person who dies in their 50's because of smoking, or drinking, etc, actually stops any further expenses from adding to the cost burden. A "health freak" may live into their 80's+, with health costs accruing every year, with the end result still being massive costs during those final few years.

Want to help lower the cost of healthcare???..eat, drink, smoke and be happy.

Because it's always universally bad. It leads to fewer doctors, higher wait times and worse service for everyone.

You're understating the scope of those types of decisions being made. That said, those costs are made by the individual or their family, not a bureaucrat.
