Quotes from Crystal:
quote:

Billy Crystal doesn’t sound too impressed by the current state of comedy and cancel culture.
“It’s becoming a minefield and I get it,” the comedian told The Post. “I don’t like it, I understand it … I just keep doing what I’m doing and that’s all you can do right now.
“It’s a totally different world [now] and it doesn’t mean you have to like it,” he added, with a laugh.

quote:

Asked if he watched the trainwreck awards show this year, he slyly asked after a slight pause, “Were they on?”
“You know I’d rather talk about ‘Here Today,’ ” he said, but not before adding, “It’s an interesting time, it’s an interesting time.”

new York Post

Now the comments from the 8 people on Twitter:
quote:

Yeah, it’s real tragedy that Billy Crystal can’t do blackface anymore.
quote:

It sometimes feels like everything in comedy produced before 2014 has some kinda transphobia in it. And we ignore like 95% of it because it's so ubiquitous and exhausting. But sure, comedy is "a minefield" now. Try being born in one.
quote:

I like Billy Crystal. He's hilarious. But honestly, frick this bullshite about "we can't do comedy" anymore. Grow the frick up. Plenty of comics are brilliant without being bigoted assholes.
quote:

people saying that they “never know what’s ok to say anymore” are really just accidentally admitting that almost all of our American vernacular and culture is built around systems of power and oppression lol
quote:

comedy is not "becoming a minefield." people just won't accept racist shite and punching down anymore.
quote:

Billy Crystal doesn’t want to live in a world where his impression of Muhammad Ali isn’t widely celebrated.
quote:

The last Billy Crystal movie I saw or even heard about was a comedy about how kids these days are spoiled and why can't we spank them anymore?? So basically today was not surprising.
quote:

Billy Crystal did blackface as recently as the 2012 *Oscars*?!
quote:

It's amazing how many euphemisms and analogies are offered up for "we're annoyed that white dudes just can't say whatever they want anymore".
quote:

I personally think it is very helpful that we keep asking rich old white men who have enjoyed the largest stage in human history how they feel about minority groups having a say in how they’re portrayed.

Moral to the story, people have thin skin

Just imagine if we stopped reading Twitter?

Racing to cite Twitter as a legitimate American response to anything is the problem. Twitter is a fringe leftist cesspool.

Do these woke motherfrickers know that Ali considered him his brother? Billy Crystal was essentially the Ali-authorized impersonator.

Comedians doing impressions of celebrities is now racist, along with math and PB&J sandwiches.

I always thought it was funny when Richard Pryor, Dave Chappelle, or Eddie Murphy did his "white man's voice".

Gay and trans jokes are funny precisely because you aren't supposed to make fun of these people.

That's a lot of effort for a fraction of 1% of the population, but they're right.

Making fun of people who suffer from crippling mental illness isn't funny. Unfortunately, the left is insistent on lifting up their malady as a virtue.

There’s a difference between being a bigoted a-hole and poking fun at stereotypes. Maybe try not being an insecure pussy.

Agreed. Twitter is nothing but a left wing bubble.

But those idiots on Twitter don't realize they are proving Billy Crystal right.

It’s not a minefield. It’s actually pretty clear: comedy is comedy if it’s at the expense of white, christian, conservative, cis-gendered people.

Everything else is racism, sexism, homophobia, hate speech, etc.

Wasn't that pretty much a major theme in the Fresh Prince? The goofy cousin was basically white and uncool. I didn't watch it that much but it didn't rustle my jimmies any.

Dennis Miller canceled his own podcast because of today’s climate. What the hell are people whining about when comedians actually tell them the truth?
