And Trump took the bait bigly on this one and it's going to leave a mark. This whole situation with these goading idiots and their "message" to troops, there's only one way he should have responded. With one simple statement.
"None of my cabinet, nor myself, have issued ANY illegal orders to ANY of our wonderful and patriotic members of our Armed Forces, and we will continue that trend. Any assertion that this HAS or WILL happen, is FAKE NEWS.

...see? Simple, effective, completely dismissive and perfectly clear. But no, Trump has to take it to level-10 defense-mode right out of the gate, and it gives the media the opportunity to say "this is an admission that he issued illegal orders", and you know it's coming.
I love a large part of what Trump has done in this second term, though he's had more "misses" than I expected. But I'm done pretending he doesn't take rides on the retard-wagon way too often.
