Yep, Storming Norman must really be proud of our Commanders.

Maybe if they stuck with Trump's plan and exited on May 1st the Taliban couldn't have convinced a majority of Afghans to defect over to the Taliban side. But alas, Biden reneged and the Taliban was able to convince many Afghans to join them because American are untrustworthy liars.

I may have only been at the company grade level of leadership, but both of their responses, from the flag officer level, has been the exact opposite of everything I was taught about being a leader.

If this is their excuse, then maybe their plan should have been to start extracting everyone necessary BEFORE withdrawing troops so you have people to cover an exit.
IOW, it still falls on them for shite planning.

You would have thought they learned this on Korea and Vietnam. But history repeats itself.

If you only knew what really goes on in promotion boards for O4 on up, especially with CSL...

Oh, I know. There's a reason why I'm a civilian now. And that's after getting a top block on my final OER as a SIGO and having my BDE CDR pull me aside for a couple hours trying to convince me not to REFRAD.

The current commanding general of JRTC tried instituting peer evaluations for the Majors at 7th ID HQ when he was chief of staff.
He stopped them abruptly after the first round of peer evals when the individual he had ranked #1 was unanimously ranked dead last by his peers. I knew I was retiring and didn't care where he ranked me so I used my counseling to lobby for my coworkers. They ended up #2 and #5.
It gets worse too with the new "Assignment Marketplace." The 51st Signal Battalion Commander pulled me aside my last year and said he wished he was getting out when I was because he had to put 1st Lieutenants in company command due to not having enough Captains available.

Yeah the afghan leadership that they sheltered, paid off, provided arms, tanks, supplies, troops for; must have pinky swear promised them they wouldn't do this. They weren't outnumbered and they cut bait and ran.

Who couldn't see this RVN moment coming?

Based on what I have read about the Taliban's strategy to take down the country, the should absolutely resign.
This is an American Dunkirk.

If you knew their army would fail why not have a plan to get our people out sooner?
At this point if they would have had a plan no US citizens would be left in that country.
All those Afghan Citizens crying on news reports that they will go back to the old days.
The guys that beat you came to fight for their beliefs and to run the country the way they want it to be ran.
All the people in the cosmopolitan areas of the country sit and cry waiting for someone else to help them. They need to learn to help themselves, pickup a weapon, and fight for their beliefs.
Then the president is hiding like the coward he is at Camp David. He is not even addressing this nation on his failure to get our citizens out of the country safely. Again, this is on him as he is the president and commander in chief.

After reflecting on the years of investing in training and equipping the Afghan army, Austin said, "You can’t buy willpower, and you can’t buy leadership," the member said.
This is ironic considering they focus so much effort on training and equipment and so little on understanding the culture of the people they’re training and equipping.
The Afghan forces turning can certainly be disappointing, but I don’t know if it should really be surprising if the US brass would have bought an ounce of intelligence on how Afghan people align their interests.

You can’t buy willpower.
100% correct. And that’s why it’s essential to understand the people you’re dealing with before getting into a 20-year nation building exercise with them.
1. If they lack the willpower, say no and walk away.
2. If you agree to get in bed with them, and lose and destroy lives over decades, dropping everything and washing your hands at the end is a horrible look.

Well the statement itself is factual, and why we should have never been there.

Trillions of dollars spent, and 20 years alongside them, you should have probably known how much willpower they didn't have before you withdrew while 10k Americans were stranded.
Will you admit this is a fricking disaster created by the big guy? And that idiot is hiding on vacation.
