Did I hear him say that it would cost 2 Billion dollars to harden the entire US grid?

That sounds insanely cheap especially relative to the potential cost of really losing it.

Is that LeVan on TV or the radio? Would like to hear a replay of it.

An EMP attack wouldn’t do the damage these scaremongers would have you believe.

Actually detonating a weapon is the exact location of the ionosphere to cause any damage is exceedingly difficult. Plus nobody really knows how much damage it would do.

On TV. It replays at midnight central time.

Very informative and scary.

People were laughing at Trump not so long ago when he was talking about electrical steel...

My understanding is that damage to automobiles is highly variable and that some cars would re-start after you disconnected the battery then re-connected; others would need some new fuses; others may need a component replaced; and still others would be damaged beyond reasonable repair. As a general rule, I think the older the car, the more easy it will be to get it going again.

You might not have a choice, because Congressional estimates have >80% of Americans having starved to death within 12 months of a continental scale EMP.

Related to that: one of the biggest myths with EMP is this notion of something that takes out any circuitry.

You need an antenna to conduct the voltage, around at minimum 24-36 inches in length.

My iPhone X, as sophisticated as it is, will be completely unfazed by an EMP, simply because it can’t conduct sufficient voltages. It just won’t have cell towers to connect to anymore.

So if you unplug the battery, and isolate the entertainment circuitry (particularly the radio antenna), and the ground, you should be fine.

Granted, it’s doubtful you’ll have that done when the EMP actually hits.

For my epic disaster svenarios, I built my response on two events I regard as probable: pandemic flu and EMP.

The former primarily involves having the ability to shelter in place with no external needs for as long as six months.

The later has be getting the frick out of Dallas, by any means nesscessary, as soon as possible. Even if I need to do it by foot or bike.

In case the emp doesn't get us, the liberals will still find a way to destroy society. I just saw a tv commercial for a law office - metooattorney.com

It's a real thing

I think we should spam the hell out of them with phony complaints. You can submit questions and such through their website. It's too bad they don't have twitter. Latarvis could wreck shop.

EMP isn’t the only, or in my opinion the biggest threat. The same goal could be achieved with low tech conventional means.

Energy bosses think 2013 sniper attack on a California electrical substation was terrorism

Weirdest thing to me is that major parts are not made here and we don't have spares stored anywhere. I don't know what this guy says, but I've hears a major grid attack that damages these components could take years to repair.

The US has approximately 2000 of the huge distribution transformers and there are only 200 made every year, primarily in Germany. So if a solar storm the size of the one that took out the very primitive telegraph system in 1859 occurred today we be fricked!

We actually have EMP events every day. They are called lightning strikes and the electrical equipment survives them quite well, with localized outages being the biggest problem. A nuclear detonation in the ionosphere will disrupt radio/TV transmissions and possibly burn out cell phones, but will not have enough power to melt wires the size of your index finger inside a transformer.

I'm in emergency management. The is the one that really scares the shite out of the powers that be. This one is as real as it gets folks.

If it scares them so much why hasn't the Federal government allocated the funds to "harden" the grid, seems I read awhile back it would cost a few billion to protect the most vital components of the grid.
