Not the cleaned up Movie version. Wiki has it under Patton The Speech.

Excerpt: Each man must think not only of himself but his buddy fighting next to him as well. We don't want any yellow cowards in the Army. They should be killed off like flies. If not, they'll go home after the war, god damned cowards, and breed more cowards. The brave men will breed more brave men. Kill off the god damn cowards and we'll have a nation of brave men.

My dad trained under him stateside then served under him in the Med theatre during the war. He said the politicians hated him but the men loved him and would fight like hell for him. Can you imagine this hard nosed SOB serving under a president like Obama? He wouldn't last a week.

I don’t want men who will die for their country. I want men who will make the other bastards die for THEIR country!

He was a unique individual.

Gotta love the War Eagle Jeep.

quote:

Patton stood in his jeep and reviewed his Third Army troops. The war had ended. The tag on the front of the jeep read “War Eagle.” Patton said he had long admired “that fighting Auburn spirit.”

Is this true? I upvoted you anyway. I wouldn’t be surprised if it is true.

Good for AU. That's about as strong an endorsement as it gets.

Patton and his crew were training in the area close to Auburn IIRC (Columbus, GA).

He threatened to destroy Phenix City with his tanks

My grandpa fought in Europe.

He wouldn't watch war movies that I know of but a cousin told him about the movie and the coward in Saving Private Ryan..

He looked bewildered and simply said, "Yea, that would never have happened, we'd have killed him before all that"

Thanks for the thread. I had never taken the time ti find a transcript of the actual speech, though I have seen the movie version dozens of times, I googled and enjoyed it.

My grandpa drove a Jeep just like that in Patton’s army. The pole on the bumper was used to cut piano wire the Germans would tie around trees between roads to decapitate drivers/riders

My grandfather was a tank mechanic during the war. I’ll never forget him telling about the time Patton arrived and stood atop the tank he was busy working on. It was definitely a proud moment for him. He also lost 9 friends on D Day but he never gave any details other than that.

My grandpa said that he, and most of the other soldiers he fouhjtw
with in WW2, would have put a bullet in Patton's head if they'd have had the chance. He was not so loved by the troops as you'd be led to believe.....

That he did. The mob had mistreated and taken advantage of several of his soldiers and he actually rolled a tank on the bridge is how the story goes. Needless to say the P.C. mob saw the error of their way.
