I agree that Pakistan is no friend of ours. But this is evil even if it involves your worst enemy:

So why are we trying to be nice to China again?

Doesn’t seem like we are. Trump is helping with tanking China’s economy.

Not only the group in question, but remember these "brides" had no say in their "marriage". So persecution either way.

Who's selling them to em? That's where the root of the problem is. Just like how African tribe leaders sold slaves to Euros. Cant buy a slave without a seller.

Probably better to be forced to marry a rich Chinese guy than a poor Pakistani.

Those Chinese tariffs on American women are forcing them to trade for an inferior product.

This is fricked up, but I have a couple of questions:

Would these women have had a say in their marriage if they stayed in Pakistan? Are they more or less likely to be physically abused in China than in Pakistan?

FILE - In this May 22, 2019 file photo, Sumaira a Pakistani woman, shows a picture of her Chinese husband in Gujranwala, Pakistan. Sumaira, who didn't want her full name used, was raped repeatedly by Chinese men at a house in Islamabad where she was brought to stay after her brothers arranged her marriage to the older Chinese man.

True. And I'm not saying Pakistani leadership is innocent at all. Only that even though we aren't friends with them, we shouldn't wish this on their people.

This is horrible, but it is what happens with the 1 child policy when families abort the girls.

Yep. That was mentioned in the article. Sow the wind, reap the whirlwind.

I'm not sure the Pakistani leadership can do much. There are effectively two governments, one civilian, one military, and attempts to exert civilian power over the military have, historically, led to coups. China has offered to effectively replace the US as Pakistan's ally. The importance of Pakistan is its relatively easy access to Central Asia, which the US has used since the 1960's. The US had Pakistan do a lot of its dirty work in Central Asia, while offering aid, money, weapons and trade to the Pakistani military.

The Chinese are now offering lots of money, and military aid, in an attempt to encircle India, bringing India into an advantageous economic position for the Chinese, who want the entire South Asian subcontinent, as it remains a massive market of people, and is extremely important for China's Belt and Road Initiative, as it requires India, Pakistan and Iran to reach Turkey easily.

Also at issue here is the number of Chinese men outnumber Chinese women, so going abroad for wives is fairly common for Chinese men. They've been doing it in SE Asia for upwards of 20 years.
