The decision to defund the police resulted in skyrocketing violent crime. Even when Portland’s hapless mayor tried to reverse course and rehire police, they couldn’t find people willing to take the jobs.

Meanwhile the decriminalization of drugs also created new problems including a rise in overdoses and even more problems with drugged-out homeless people on the city’s streets. Even the homeless drug addicts were giving the city mixed reviews

So it has gradually dawned on the geniuses in charge that the city/state took some wrong turns back in 2020 and may need to dig itself out by actually changing things.

Back in August, Gov. Tina Kotek of Oregon announced she was forming a task force designed to help revive the city of Portland by carefully studying the problem and making recommendations.

Today, Gov. Kotek announced she’ll be acting on the list of recommendations she got from the task force, which include adding more police officers and outlawing public drug use.

Wasn't a lot of the resistance to hiring more cops and re-outlawing drugs coming from the city council? If so, that's going to be some fun fireworks to watch.

They should allocate $10 million to relocate these homeless drug addicts to California.

Not sure what Oregon laws are but I’m thinking there is a way the governor declares Portland a blighted city and implements policing under the state banner if they won’t do it under the city banner.

Slow boat to Hawaii.

Try to find a fix in a place where the fricking Spam is two to three times mainland price.

It would be funny if it wasn't so tragic.

It's easy to virtue signal until the consequences roll in.

No one saw this coming. Anyone in an area that hasn't legalized yet, needs to get this article over to their reps.

Ambitious aspiration for the Governor.

Reversing entitlement and public use of drugs that have become entrenched in an area that produced the "summer of love" experiment in anarcho-syndicalism. Sounds like a real mountain to climb for this Governor.

So there is somebody in an official capacity who's actually claiming that legalizing drugs might not be the best of ideas. Even though it's tempered by only disallowing public use.

Even Sweden tried setting aside a park that was strictly for drug users. What went on in that park challenges belief by the rational mind.

Wasn't long before they were forced to reverse that entitlement.

If I'm police I need 4x the pay as elsewhere or I don't go

4x?

The plan should be to hire a bunch of head knockers willing to beat the living frick out of the ANTIFA idiots who have been running things out there.

They may take less pay than expected if they have job satisfaction.

Wow, the Left is wrong again? I can't believe it. Defunding the police and decriminalizing drugs were such great ideas. Probably still are, it just wasn't done correctly, like communism. Let's try again, somewhere else. This time they'll get it right.

I'm constantly changing my mind on whether or not progressives really are that fricking retarded or if they know what they're doing and purposefully fricking stuff up.

Both seem extremely likely.

Understandable having at one time dealt with hop-heads on a daily basis. Wasn't exactly an inspirational experience and did nothing to encourage faith in the direction of a country that could eventually be populated with a majority of them.

The Chinese even took a dimmer view of it, in what they decided was the only solution for the Opium dens.

It's just that we're more civilized than that.

Either some foreign visitor is visiting Portland or it must be an election cycle
