I partly agree.
Colleges and universities are the actual bad guys here, not their victims.

Illegals leisurely stroll over the borders in new Jordan’s and $1,000 iPhones after their grilling 2,500 miles of walking through 100 degree heat from Venezuela day after day.

the government actually did something to help people, it's pandemonium!

theyre just trapped in our shite system of higher education in this country and they cant get out.

how old is this board, are you all retires

we're all told we need degrees, so for many the only way to pay for it is this predatory lending.
Stop acting like job opportunities for useless degrees is somehow kept secret from students and only revealed after graduation. Thst simply isn’t the case.

It’s alarming to see people so utterly ignorant but convinced they’re the ones that have it figured out.
Guys that borrowed $100K before checking out the degrees they were buying are explaining finance and economics to the guys that bought viable degrees and responsibly paid for their education.

No they didn’t, nothing is free. Doing this just makes someone else pay for it either through higher taxes or inflation.
If they really wanted to help they would revamp the system. Make state run universities only provide certain degrees and not require their students to take a bunch of unrelated classes. Prevent dumb rules like requiring all freshmen to stay on campus, and do things to cap tuition cost at the government run institutions. Private schools are different, but hopefully a lot will mimic public ones, and if not that’s your choice but the government should get out of the student loan business.
This was just a vote buying scheme that probably works because so many people don’t understand how the money supply works.

today doesnt fix all that but it wipes out the debt completely for 20 million people, and helps 43 million at least to some degree. I know you frickers hate the idea of helping one another, and you think life is supposed to be nothing but endless misery, but this is a step in the right direction.
The problem is these should have always been able to be discharged in bankruptcy. If I understand the history, big banks lobbied to have this set up. Gains were privatized and risks are being socialized. The incentive structure was set for costs to escalate with ordinary people on the hook. Our incompetent govt - both D and R - failed to step in and control the costs. Our society failed to point people towards skilled trades, where we have a shortage.
I think it sucks for many of these people with debt. They were young and naive. Maybe half or so. Maybe the rest irresponsible. Someone was going to be on the hook for this. If not the students, then should've been the banks and the universities, not the taxpayers. It is not unfair to put this on the banks and universities, changing the parameters of these loans, when considering the banks and universities took advantage of the situation with piss poor returns on these degrees.

Why don't you dip into your pocket to help and stay out of mine or better yet, let's at least put a tax on streaming services and cable TV to pay for it instead of adding to the debt.

that is not some exception, stories like that are the norm, its not the 60's anymore, our schools cost too fricking much but we're all told we need degrees, so for many the only way to pay for it is this predatory lending.
Well at least we now know you lack the fundamental understanding of the situation.
Your schools cost too much because the government gives absurd amounts of money to anyone with a pulse to go to school. The same government just doubled down on the policy that makes schools more expensive by forcing tax payers to foot the bill, and worse, they’ve decided to continue “lending”.
And you don’t need a degree. You want a degree. A degree is not necessary for success.

Also as of recent, I decided to say frick it and started pursuing a master's degree where I'll incur more loans. I intend to just keep paying my note till I die which will never come close to paying off what I owe. Death due us part and all that. But hey, I'll die smarter than I was before.
This country is full of stupid smart people and you’re living proof. This poor poor pitiful me stuff is getting old. Can you read and do math? You knew what you signed up for but are to trashy and/or lazy to pay what you owe. You could easily work more jobs to make up the difference and pay off that loan but you choose not to. You probably chose a career in “what you loved” rather than what puts food on the table and clears your debt line but now I have to pay your debts because you’re lazy trash.
I got a bachelors degree and came out debt free. I went to LSUA becaus they offered scholarships and I stayed there, saving my money until I could finish at LSU. Meanwhile I saved money by working 2 jobs and picking up all the extra cash I could doing random small jobs. Then I go to LSU and see other students living the high life, partying and etc while taking student loans. It was tempting to do it because I had nothing but all debts are paid, either up front or late and I chose up front. You chose to push your responsibility off on to others and yet you come here with some bullshite pity party. You cry about Katrina, well I started a seafood business and got destroyed due to the BP oil spill. I didn’t get shite from BP because I was to far down the chain so I wasn’t “directly affected”. Well, until I could figure out what to do, I shut my business down and went to work cleaning up the oil spill. Did I want to do that? No, but I had to do that because I had bills to pay. Life isn’t about doing what you want to do. It is about doing what you have to do so you can eventually do what you want to do.

Average debt is $37,000 per borrower.
They should be able to handle that. I bet you got swept up in the bullshite making it sound like the students owed hundreds of thousands and crushed under all their debt. And over 50% of that debt is graduate degree debt.
Yeah, the're being crushed under a low interest, take-30-years-to-pay-it-back $30,000 loan.
Hope to God they're not planning on buying a car any time soon. No telling what would happen.
This will increase inflation and tuition cost.
These are payments for votes, nothing more. Crazy it happening so close to midterms rather than in the first few months of his taking office since it's such a great move according to you.
Yeah, you're so full of shite.

This is an attempt to swing the young morons to vote Democrat only. If they allow this to happen Congress should be dissolved and removed forever because they won’t be needed anymore. You will be ran by a dictatorship. One man will make all decisions with no input from anyone else.
