Why are you adding footnotes like this?

Might as well tell us which denomination of Jesus you want also.

This kind of bullshite needs to go the way of the dinosaurs. It's nonsense like this that turns people away from God. You turn what should he a guide for healthy living into a book of legislature meant to instill fear in those who don't see things the same way that you do.
If anyone in here needs to get right with God, it's you. These are not words of compassion or love. This is coercion.

Saint Matthew 28:16-20
quote:
16 Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
quote:
Acts 11:1-11
quote:
The apostles and the believers throughout Judea heard that the Gentiles also had received the word of God. 2 So when Peter went up to Jerusalem, the circumcised believers criticized him 3 and said, “You went into the house of uncircumcised men and ate with them.”
4 Starting from the beginning, Peter told them the whole story: 5 “I was in the city of Joppa praying, and in a trance I saw a vision. I saw something like a large sheet being let down from heaven by its four corners, and it came down to where I was. 6 I looked into it and saw four-footed animals of the earth, wild beasts, reptiles and birds. 7 Then I heard a voice telling me, ‘Get up, Peter. Kill and eat.’
8 “I replied, ‘Surely not, Lord! Nothing impure or unclean has ever entered my mouth.’
9 “The voice spoke from heaven a second time, ‘Do not call anything impure that God has made clean.’ 10 This happened three times, and then it was all pulled up to heaven again.
11 “Right then three men who had been sent to me from Caesarea stopped at the house where I was staying. 12 The Spirit told me to have no hesitation about going with them. These six brothers also went with me, and we entered the man’s house. 13 He told us how he had seen an angel appear in his house and say, ‘Send to Joppa for Simon who is called Peter. 14 He will bring you a message through which you and all your household will be saved.’

The guy should be happy. This is a good day. Instead he's in here bitching that it's not good enough and threatening people with hellfire and brimstone. He is everything off putting about religious fundamentalists and he's fricking incessant about it.
Some would even say self-righteous.

I believe in Jesus Christ as my personal savior and try to humble myself accordingly. I don’t accept that everyone who doesn’t will burn in hell however. Hard to believe that a Tibetan monk who lives a virtuous life that most all Christian sinners would envy is going to hell because he was born in a different part of the world and was exposed to a different religion.
It is not for us to make these judgments.
Aethists who recognize no higher power and think they can live with no repercussions to their actions, no kharma or anything are another story. They should be granted human dignity but also shamed so that others would avoid such a path in life.
We were not meant to be a nation of atheists.

What happens is those those behind the "door" are about to face a destruction that they already deserve, and that Jesus is calling out to them to believe and be forgiven so that they don't have to face justice. If they don't respond, then they will certainly get what they are already owed.

If anyone in here needs to get right with God, it's you. These are not words of compassion or love. This is coercion.
It's also not coercion to tell someone the truth about their place before God and their need to turn from their sins. I'm proclaiming a message that Jesus proclaimed. He spoke more about Hell than He did Heaven. He spoke more about judgement than He did love. Why? Because He was loving and He wanted to warn others from the coming judgement so that they would be saved.
Ed - You are deserving God's wrath for your sins. You have broken His commandments. Each sin against an infinite God deserves an infinite punishment, and you have heaped up eternal wrath upon you. The good news is that God entered into His own creation to be our representative. Jesus became a man so that He could reconcile sinners like you and me to a holy God. He died on the cross to pay for our sins, and He rose from the dead as a guarantee of our own resurrection from the dead. All you have to do to receive this gift of life is turn from your life of sin and believe in Jesus Christ. You will be forgiven instantly. That is true love: God dying for His enemies, like you and me, to make us family.

quote:Respectfully, brother, if what you say is correct, there is not only no point in missions work of spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ, but it would actually be detrimental. If all people are going to Heaven by merely being "good" (as if anyone is truly good apart from Christ), then preaching the gospel to someone could only endanger their eternal state. If they accepted Jesus, then they haven't gained anything more eternally than what they already had for being a good person, but if they reject Him, then now they are potentially damned (if they don't eventually repent and believe before they die).

I know you are trying to be compassionate, but the truth is that if anyone can be saved apart from Jesus, then Jesus died in vain.

I'm with you, but the scriptures are clear
"Except a man be born of water and the Spirit, he can not enter into the kingdom of heaven."
There does appear to be some leeway, though..
In proving the resurrection to the Christian Corinthians who didn't believe in it, Paul states
"Else what shall they do which are baptized for the dead. If the dead rise not at all, why are they then baptized for the dead"
Apparently there is an allowance made for people who never had an opportunity to be baptized, which would make sense and show much more merciful and comprehensive planning on God's part.
Currently the only church that I know of that perfoms these baptisms is the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Perhaps revelation will come and more mainstream churches will also take part.

St. Paul is saying here that it is obviously pointless to baptize the dead.

Mormons aren’t Christians, and their baptisms are invalid. Thankfully this will never be “mainstream”.

Too late now. We're divided. The see eye A started it in the 1950s and media/social media finished it off beginning around the turn of this century.
If a 9/11-esqe event happened again today, half the nation would openly celebrate it. There's no coming back together. There will be a fight, and there will have to be an uncontested winner.
