Beto will be the New Southerner trying to win the Dim's 2020 nomination.

Beto couldn’t even win Texas. Had he won, he would have been touted as the love child of Obama and Justin Trudeau...

I'm not saying Beto could carry Texas, but the fricker just pulled more votes than Kerry, Obama x2, and Hillary. He's the best performing D candidate in Texas in who knows how long and he did it in a midterm.

Idk if that's more him or the attitude towards Cruz but it is pretty big either way.

He was likeable, a ton of money was spent to elect him, and Cruz lacks charm.

As Beto begins to make noise about running, look for his primary opponents to start flinging mud at him. It'll be a new experience for him as some of his current allies stab him in the back.

He only improved a couple hundred thousand votes - and don’t forget those came with an insane war chest eclipsing all previous candidates...and he still lost to an unlikable dude that got absolutely demolished by DJT

If he does run Trump will immediately call him by his given name.

Actually surprised Cruz didn't address him as Robert.

I think if you look at the counties he won, then it's no surprise. I'm actually pretty shocked he won Tarrant County (Fort Worth and some pretty rural cities), that to me signals that he's willing to listen and be bipartisan.

Ted Cruz is very unlikable, but he holds this state by the neck. There are tons of people in the rural parts of this state that hang their hat on them. That should not undermine what Beto was able to do in his campaign.

He "only improved a couple hundred thousand" in a mid-term. That's big numbers. I would be curious to see how many straight tickets he pulled in.

It did take a ton of money but he still kept it really, really close and wrecked some down ticket GOP candidates.

Cruz won Texas because and only because he is republican and Beto is far left.

He is unlikable and that’s the biggest reason it was close. Not 100% because of Beto.

Texas needs to get new blood in the Republican Party to combat this movement. An R by your name will eventually not be enough.

Mitch knew he was a non-factor many months ago and disappeared.

I said this in an earlier Beto thread... The fact that he came within a couple of points of Cruz, running on a far far (Bernie Sanders) left platform should be concerning to republicans. Had he been just a little more moderate, I have no doubt he would have won.
