Old Farts of the Poli Board - How have the news channels shifted over the years?

I vividly remember my elementary school teachers would always say stuff like "Fox News is conservative-leaning. MSNBC is liberal-leaning, and CNN is the most moderate of them all."
Obviously, this is no longer the case. In reality, they're all varying degrees of left-leaning.
Were my teachers' opinions ever accurate? When did the shift start?
I ask this as a young guy who really only began paying attention to politics about mid-way through Obama.

I remember in 1952 the media was on the side of the GI Joe, now it's on the side of Pedo Joe

They used to report news.
Then the 24 hour news stations began, they regurgitated news 24 hours a day, the same crap over and over.
Then they started a few interview shows.
Now they are 24 hour entertainment networks.

I can remember when the only television news you got was the local news at 5, 6, and 10 and the major network news after the local. CNN was around in the 80's but a lot of people still didn't have cable. Newspapers were considered to be leaning one way or the other. I guess is was during W's first term that I noticed it being said that Fox was right leaning, etc. I don't know if it was because the left was buttsore over the 2000 election, or if it was said long before that and it was only then I noticed it.
My old man always said Cronkite was a Commie but at least he kept it to himself (except during the Tet Offensive).
EDIT: Tigerfoot nailed it.

The media have always been libs. It's natural.
They haven't always been anti-American though. That became a thing with Walter Cronkite and his pro-Commie reports on Vietnam

Truth is left-leaning.

CBS was the Communist Broadcasting System in the 1960s.

For me, Walter Cronkite was one of the last major news journalist. He presented just the facts, not opinions or theories. You never knew what political party he was affiliated with, and "that's the way it is", or should be.

I can remember when CNN was just straight down the middle news reporting

It remains fair to say Foxl leans right and MSNBC leans left. CNN floats somewhere in the space between the two. Even most of rhis board seemed to agree with this description
Until the Pumpkin singled out CNN as his nemesis. The troops snapped back in line.

Don Lemon, Cuomo, all say that they are news journalists. They are not, They are opinion talking heads just like Hannity and Carlson. Only Hannity and Carlson admit it.

Zucker took over CNN in 2014 and that is when they began to skew left

CNN is so far left at this point the only thing keeping them from passing MSNBC is Rachel Madcow.

MSNBC wasn't always ultra liberal. Hell, Chris Matthews used to be conservative. His show Hardball was always a decent watch. Not sure when he shifted to liberal loon along with the entire lineup at MSNBC. It became nothing more than propaganda when Tim Russert died.
I always thought CNN was somewhat fair. Trump either broke them or I actually started paying attention. They used to have several shows which split evenly between liberal and conservative. They got rid of all of them around 2005. Now, they have 9 liberal talking head screaming at one weak willed conservative. Similar to how Hannity used to have Colmes to beat up on.
The Sunday shows have all gone from being hosted by conservatives to hosted by liberals.

Because he was left of the Democrats at the time
Walter Cronkite was one of the first and biggest One World-er, who called for an "International Liberty Bell" and called for the US to surrender some of it's sovereignty

Nah, CNN has fallen off the cliff in terms of dishonest reporting and bias. The Trump election broke them.
The problem is there really isn't 24 hours worth of watchable news in a day and, even if there is, the level of detail required to accurately report it won't attracted 99% of the viewing audience. Therefore, the 24-hour networks had to change their model to keep viewership which meant catering to the intelligence level of the unwashed masses. Hence, we get 23 and half hours of emotional, soap-opera-like commentary on 30 minutes of actual news.
The 24 hours networks are simply a big mirror staring at American culture.
