I think there is a decent possibility that blockading the strait for all countries is just about the worst thing we could do.

No it won't.

This gives us the ultimate leverage, allows free passage of tankers, which in turn will help oil prices, and most importantly, choke the last life out of the IRCG's economy.

Food for thought.

The mission was never negotiation. It was documentation. In the language of Sun Tzu, when peace is impossible, you must first appear to seek it, so that when force follows, it is seen not as aggression but inevitability.

Sending JD Vance, a man whose reputation is peace, into a hopeless stalemate was not naïveté, but design. The U.S. didn’t go to talk. It went to witness. And when Tehran overturned the table with the camera rolling, the trap was complete: legitimacy secured, perception shaped, and the next move pre-justified.

Have a nice day.

I think there is a decent possibility that blockading the strait for all countries is just about the worst thing we could do. I think erasing every Iranian population center from the map would do less geopolitical damage than the blockade.

They're (Trump and company) calling this a "blockade" when it really isn't in the basic sense.

This is more a return to what was floated in the early days of the war after Lloyd's stopped insuring tankers in the straight. Trump floated the idea of our Navy becoming the guarantor of those tanker shipments. Our Navy will play the role of escort — essentially insuring those tankers — while maintaining a direct presence to check any Iranian threat in the straight. On the back end we will try to make sure no corporation involved pays Iran for safe passage.

This is a repackage of the US Navy essentially insuring tankers that transit Hormuz.

NEW I’m told these are the US red lines for Iran:

A U.S. official tells me:
- End all uranium enrichment
- Dismantle all major nuclear enrichment facilities
- Retrieve highly enriched uranium
- Accept a broader peace, security and de-escalation framework that includes regional allies
- End funding for terrorist proxies Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Houthis
- Fully open the Strait of Hormuz, charging no tolls for passage

Combine every country’s navy together except the US and they still couldn’t accomplish this. That’s how important the US Navy is to the world’s economy and security. We make the seas safe.

So the UK was fine with Iran halting all traffic through the Strait but not OK with it now?

In all honesty they likely have no ships that are seaworthy to send.

You seem delusional. This has been an undeniable clusterfrick.
Sending Gomer to Pakistan serves no valuable purpose.

Mr. Thorne seems eager for war as long as Sun Tzu approves.

If nothing else this has revealed how weak Europe has truly become. I fully support us pulling out of NATO and telling the EU to manage on their own. Bunch of fricking cowards.
