This is completely false. It's not the best option for direct fire control, but it can absolutely provide targeting data for non-radar guided systems (infrared, etc.).
An aircraft being shot down without ever being hit with active radar is entirely possible and very likely in this case, given who supplies Iran with AA/AD systems.

The earlier tweet itt that claimed passive infrared radar was some crazy super tech is ridiculous. Its the same tech that is in things like motion lights and smart home tech to detect if someone is in a room. It isnt some miracle in military radar that nobody knows about. It has its uses but it also has some major flaws like not being able to detect anything moving directly towards the sensor and short range compared to traditional radars.
