“In a widespread attack flight in Tehran: ballistic missile production sites of the Revolutionary Guards were attacked
The Air Force, guided by military intelligence, completed a widespread attack flight overnight, during which dozens of targets of the Iranian terror regime were attacked.
As part of the attack flight, sites used for the production of essential components for the development of ballistic missiles by the various security apparatuses of the Iranian terror regime were attacked. Among the attacked sites:
* A central complex of the Revolutionary Guards for the production of ballistic missile components
* A storage site for components used in missile production
* A complex belonging to the Ministry of Defense responsible for producing missile fuel
* A ballistic missile component production site
The attack on these sites severely damages the Iranian terror regime's ability to continue producing essential components for ballistic missiles at these sites. The IDF will continue to expand its damage to the regime's weapons production sites to sever its capabilities to advance the development of ballistic missiles, which pose a direct threat to the State of Israel.
Alongside these sites, the IDF attacked several defense systems of the Iranian terror regime that were deployed across Tehran.
The completed attacks are part of a phase of deepening the damage to the core systems and foundations of the Iranian terror regime.”

Seeing what they're doing now, and launching rockets at Diego Garcia, well they wouldn't hesitate to launch at anyone, us and Israel in particular.
quote:
They are launching rockets at us, and our allies, because we massively attacked them. We can’t conclude from that what they would have done had we left them alone.
quote:
No sir, I'm sure of what those bastards would continue doing if we left them alone.
I posted the sequence in question to suggest that maybe Penrod's argument is a little more subtle than you appreciate. What he seems to be saying is that launching missiles at your opponent during wartime is not necessarily evidence of what would have occurred in the absence of war. He's not saying there is no evidence that Iran would have used those missiles even if we'd left them alone.
Here's the distinction between those two views.
His statement:
quote:
We can’t conclude from that what they would have done had we left them alone.
is different from this statement
quote:
We can’t conclude what they would have done had we left them alone.
The first statement (Penrod's words) is technically true, because everyone will fight back if attacked, so it's not a useful argument on its face. What you seem to be arguing against is the 2nd statement, which you correctly assess as false. We can draw plenty of conclusions about what the Iranian regime would or very likely would have done in the future, based on their previous behavior, including their efforts to acquire nuclear material and longer range missiles with greater reach than previously known.

CENTCOM: Operation Epic Fury key takeaways
•? ?8,000+ U.S. combat flights, 8,000+ targets hit, with total air dominance.
•? ?Longest-yield artillery strike in U.S. Army combat history.
•? ?100+ Iranian naval vessels destroyed, biggest navy wipeout since WWII.
These strikes target Iran's threats at the source, eliminating missiles, drones, and naval risks.

This war shows us what they would do. They are attacking gulf states that were not at all involved in the attack on them or even allowed US to over fly their territory. Even if the US stopped being Israel's supporter, when Iran got enough weapons they would attack the US and Europe next time they got in to a conflict with Isreal. Based on this conflict we can conclude Iran will attack influential neutral countries in order to put pressure on their enemy. Now, they only have the ability to significantly strike countries in the Middle East. Based on the attempted strike on Deigo Garcia, Iran lied about their ballistic missile development. If we didn't strike now, Iran would have more ballistic missiles.
The attempt strike today and their behavior in this conflict proves Iran was a clear and present danger.

WTF you think that they've been doing for the last 5 decades? WTF you think those underground missle city/assembly structures are for? RESEARCH?
WTF do you think ours are for? RESEARCH?
You don’t need to refresh my memory of 1979. I was 17 and seething with anger that Carter was such a pussy. There is not one poster on this board who is more of a hawk on Iran than I am. The post with which you are arguing was pointing out a logic fallacy and was 100% correct.

The Esfahan Khomeynishahr Drone Production Plant produced Shahed one-way attack drones that have been used by the Iranian regime to attack targets across the region. The photo dated March 3, 2026, shows the plant before U.S. strikes. The photo taken on March 12, 2026 shows the same site following a barrage of U.S. precision weapons strikes - another major blow Iran’s defense industrial base.

wdhalgren,
I appreciate your discernment and contribution. You should probably know that you're talking to a guy that drives a stroked Chevy 350, Muncie 4 speed, AM radio, and a heater. Penrod and probaly yourself are way over my head with the nuanced stuff. I'll go back to sleep now.

“Iran fired two intermediate-range ballistic missiles at Diego Garcia… Neither of the missiles hit the base, but the move marked a significant attempt by Iran to reach far beyond the Middle East and threaten U.S. interests… One of the missiles failed in flight, and a U.S. warship fired an SM-3 interceptor at the other…”

I read your comments in this thread and appreciate them. Everyone here reads things differently from how they were intended at times. We can't read minds, so language is our (imperfect) next best option.

According to the Wall Street Journal, citing multiple U.S. officials, Iran has targeted the joint U.S.-UK base at Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean with two intermediate-range ballistic missiles (IRBM). According to the report, one missile failed in flight whilst the other was engaged by a U.S. destroyer utilizing an SM-3 interceptor, but a successful interception was not confirmed. None of the missiles hit the base. This is notable as Iranian long-range precision fires have not previously been publicly assessed as having the range to hit such a target as Diego Garcia, as the base is some 4,000 kilometers from Iran proper.

U.S. Army SSG Benjamin N. Pennington, 26, of Glendale, Kentucky... the 7th American killed in the Iran conflict... came home today. Wounded March 1 at Prince Sultan Air Base, he didn’t survive. Dignified transfer at Godman Airfield, Fort Knox, with family present. On the other side, many Iranian service members and civilians have also died in the fighting.
War doesn’t discriminate... it takes lives from every nation and every walk of life. Rest in peace to all the fallen, American and Iranian alike.

50 Muslim nations should just about do it. Take Tehran and then pay us back.
