In addition to the $11.2 million compensatory damages awarded last Friday, the jury awarded a total of $33 million in punitive damages, which will probably be reduced by the court to $22 million because of the state law cap at twice compensatory (it’s not an absolute cap, but probably will apply here). That brings the total damages to $33 million. We will have the breakdown soon. The jury also awarded attorney’s fees, to be determined by the judge.

I hope this puts Oberline out of business and I hope it opens up a wave of lawsuits against these academic elitist pricks all over the country.

That’s going to leave a mark!

Bakers just keep kicking libtards in their Gonad-lers!

Total of $33 million!

Get woke, go broke.

Why on Earth would any institution go on paper like Oberlin College did in this case and expose themselves needlessly to civil liability?

They got what was coming to them.

$33 million is on the shallow end of the pool.

Sure!

You'd think this will certainly make academia reconsider its stance and strategy on things...but we all know they don't operate that way. They'll learn nothing (irony) and double down on stupid (expected).

You believe that the attorneys are in it for the socio philosophical progressive greater good and not the money?

I will guarantee you this.

When $30 million is on the line there will be attorneys bringing suits against their own alma maters.

If this stands, conservative thought on campus is fricked in the long run. The liberals will turn this into a plus for them because now there will be precedent for silencing free speech Anyone that agrees with this is a fricking idiot and does not support the first amendment, this is opening a can of worms that does not need to be opened.

Looks like their liability insurance isn't going to cover this for them.

quote:

While the Lexington policy potentially provides coverage in relation to “personal and advertising injury,” defined to include defamation and/or disparagement in certain circumstances, the Lexington policy excludes any such coverage if “personal and advertising injury” is caused “with the knowledge that the act would violate the rights of another … ,” or if the insured published material it knew to be false.

Ok.

You still aren’t a deep thinker. None of what you posted was germane to my point.

“hope this puts Oberline out of business”

You aren’t a deep thinker.

This guy gets it.

And that doesn’t mean I don’t think the bakers aren’t right and deserve some compensation.

This is an important win in the fight against cultural Marxism. Colleges have not felt any pushback for this growing activistic Progressive indoctrination and tyranny. Today is just a minor battle in the bigger war, but it’s a start.
