If the college doesn’t care about the community, why should I?

They should be awarded financial compensation from the dumbass students and faculty that led the protests. Oberlin College should not however, this is a very dangerous precedent, and the people supporting this are going against the very idea of free speech but "muh liberal arts college bad, must lose" even if it means going against what they claim to stand for.

The issue is that the jury found the Dean of Students and the college were culpable of malice in their own actions. This verdict is not about the first amendment rights of the students or even the university. It’s about the university and employee defaming the bakery. Defamation is never covered by the First.

Liberals apparently aren't deep thinkers. Always looking for handouts like "free" college and healthcare.

Like all liberals, you don't want to assign the blame for that on who is responsible (Oberlin).

There are 2 separate issues at play.

The school should always allow free speech and protest.

Simply allowing a protest should be protected.

The second they take an active stance and not only support but give aid for the protest, they become a party to any damages.

The danger is that to avoid future prosecution, they don't allow any political forums or protest.

Conflicted on this one but I would prefer to err on the side of free speech.

Oberlin has an 870 million dollar endowment. This will be a hit, but not an out of business one.

ELYRIA — Former Oberlin College President Marvin Krislov “begged” David Gibson to work with the college to repair the relationship between students and Gibson’s Bakery, Krislov testified Wednesday.

Krislov was asked why Oberlin College wouldn’t issue a retraction or a statement stating that the Gibson family and the family’s bakery business were not racist or had a history of racial profiling, as Gibson requested. Those allegations were made in a flyer urging people to boycott the bakery, which was passed out by protesters in 2016, and a resolution passed by the college’s student senate after the first day of protests.

“Those were not authorized by me. Those were not authorized by the college. They did not represent our viewpoint,” Krislov said. “What we did do, and said very clearly, was that we wanted to work with him in repairing the relationship. That’s why we were working on a joint statement. That’s why I asked and begged — I begged him — to sit down with me and others.”

They may not have been authorized by him, but he sure did nothing to quell the actions of his subordinate. IOW, he's just another spineless college administrator who is either afraid of, or in league with, the SJWs who tried to ruin this business.

Question is, if the college President didn't authorize, who did?!?! It's a pathetic attempt to dodge responsibility and blame someone else in a game of whack-a-mole. The buck stops with somebody, and it's usually the guy at the top.

He may not have authorized it, but I'd bet my bottom dollar he knew about the actions of the VP/Dean of Students and willingly turned a blind eye to her irresponsibility.

Not even close. You have to twist into a pretzel to come to that conclusion. I hope to God that you're not a lawyer.
