Even as they struggle to persuade voters that they should be trusted on the economy, Democrats remain unexpectedly competitive in the battle for Congress as the sprint to November’s midterm election begins, a New York Times/Siena College poll has found.
But Democrats are also benefiting from factors over which they had little control: the public outcry in response to the Supreme Court’s overturning of federal abortion rights and the return of former President Donald J. Trump to an attention-commanding presence on the national stage.

Overall, 46 percent of registered voters say they back the Democratic candidate for Congress in their district, compared with 44 percent for Republicans

Mr. Biden leading Mr. Trump by three percentage points, 45 to 42 percent, in a hypothetical 2024 matchup

quote:

Jeanine Spanjers, 44, from Racine, Wis., said that rising inflation had caused her to change her lifestyle, including driving less, skipping vacations and even abstaining from popcorn when she goes to the movies. A state employee, she also said she believed that Democrats were handing out too many government subsidies, pointing to relief payments distributed during the pandemic.

“What’s getting on my nerves is all this free stuff,” she said, criticizing how all the children at her son’s school received food stamp cards, including families who could afford to pay for lunch. “Republicans would never do something like that. It disincentivizes people to go out and do something. I’m starting to feel like people are being rewarded for not doing anything.”

Still, Ms. Spanjers said she planned to vote only for Democrats, saying abortion is her top issue.

Wrong. She loves the free stuff, but doesn't want to say the truth out loud.

This isn't real

The "outcry" was a bunch of 20 somethings white women that are on birth control virtue signaling for about 5 minutes

It may take that to wake Conservatives up again. Right wing populism is a stupid as left wing populism.

Republicans are going to get smoked: it will be a blue wave

I don’t know any conservative including myself who is excited about voting. Most won’t vote. It will be low turnout. GOP isn’t even trying to win so we don’t care to vote for them

I don't think there is any reality to this whatsoever.

everyone I know, even moderates, are completely pissed about the state of the country. Crime, economy, etc

You're going to see record mid-term turnout

McConnell and McCarthy should be happy with this. They have worked hard to achieve this. If the Dems win and control both houses it’s time to give up because we will never be represented again.

Nope I see no scenario why they keep the House or the Senate. The GOP will take them both the question is by how much? The GOPe seems to be doing everything they can to throw it yet the Democrats are so incompetent they are giving people no choice. I think the GOP picks up 2 in the Senate and will have the majority 52-48 and will pick 35 House Seats. It should be a historic election, but as I said the GOPe is doing everything they can to throw it. It will be enough to make Brandon a lame duck. This is just propaganda from the left.

I don't put any credence into a NYT poll but I agree with your sentiment.
