It amazes me people consider this news.

The news is that the New York Times feels the need to report it. Probably has something to do with Barr conforming he is investigating the investigators.

The key was if it’s predicated.

I don't know what stage the investigation was in at the time but even if they were just conducting a non-predicated assessment they still have the ability to use confidential human sources, subject to approval. That's my best read of it.

But don’t you think sending people out using fake aliases to seek info was a bit extreme?

Why not just ask Papadopoulos for an interview?

The info downer told the fbi was not evidence that papadoipos was involved or had knowledge of the hacking.

Opening a counterintel investigation against papaD was extraordinary. There was zero indication he had done anything wrong.

i mean, if these are the rules we're playing, then i hope you support all sorts of investigations and opposition research-funded warrants on the DEM candidates next year

Regarding the OP, maybe I’m retarded, and I am, but why is fox not reporting on this?

Not necessarily. I would not call it an extreme method. I don't know the exact reason why they would want someone to use a cover but it does appear to one of the tools they have. There could have been a consideration that an open approach could tip him off, especially if they were considering he may be involved as a foreign agent. I mean they investigating allegations that he was an Israeli agent. That's kinda wild by itself. With a counterintelligence investigation, a subject doesn't necessarily have to be suspected of committing a crime though.

Looks like Watergate wasn't all that out of whack now.

I'm just paraphrasing the AG guidelines. I'm pretty sure this wasn't the first time someone in a campaign was looked at in a CI investigation and I'm sure it won't be the last.

Decatur, believe it or not I actually respect your opinion on here more than others

I have a question: what type of information would at least raise your eyebrow re: potential surveillance abuse.

What would be a “damning” finding in the IG report, objectively, in your view?

Then what’s the justification? Doesn’t make sense to me. Where does the investigation end and set up begin?

Come on man. Don't kiss up. You know as well as I do that Decatur is okay with any actions taken by the left to defeat the right. There is no spying he wouldn't have been okay with

Moreover you're talkin about the wrong subject anyways. Even if one accepts that the spying was okay we now know that this buying answered the question. There was no fricking collusion

but they still started a collusion investigation anyway. The whole thing was a fricking fraud just to justify carpet bombing the entire Trump administration with investigative craziness. And they used as justification something that they already knew didn't happen

Electronic surveillance without a warrant would be bad (like bypassing the FISC on a non-emergency basis).

Would intentionally misleading info in a fisa app be bad?
