Post-apocalyptic NYC seems rather appealing to me.

I’m sure they’re part of it.

What weighs more? A pound of feathers or a pound of rocks?

No Liberal can give you the right answer, because they resent the right.

Most all of New York sits on some of the strongest bedrock in the world, much of it just 50 feet below the surface. It's why they're able to built such tall buildings; they have easily accessible solid foundations.
Geologically, the article is bullisht.

You’d think actual land at higher altitude would apply much more weight at sea level than a bunch of buildings on land close to sea level.

I blame Jerry Nadler.

I wonder if they subtracted the weight loss from all those subway tunnels from the added weight of those buildings.

I wonder if the writer realizes that the way we design buildings is
1 Calculate the total dead and live load of that building
2 Remove an amount of soil that equals that value, so the underlying soil is supporting what it did before
3 Build
No net add, no sinking

Don’t be afraid to learn stuff.
The Ice that Covered New York
Just 24,000 years ago, the spot where the New York State Museum (housed in the Cultural Eduation Center) is located was under more than 1.5 miles (2.4 km) of ice. At that time, the last ice sheets had reached their maximum size. A huge glacier covered nearly all of New York State.
