A foreign national was arrested yesterday on criminal charges related to his orchestration of a scheme to defraud Medicare over half a billion dollars for unnecessary genetic testing.
Khalid Satary, 54, was charged by indictment in 2019 in the Eastern District of Louisiana as part of one of the largest health care fraud schemes ever charged by the Department of Justice. According to the indictment and court documents, from 2016 to 2019, Satary owned and operated several diagnostic testing laboratories throughout the United States that billed Medicare for expensive and medically unnecessary genetic tests. Satary allegedly conspired with dozens of patient recruiters, telemarketing call centers, and telemedicine companies to utilize deceptive marketing campaigns and illegal kickbacks and bribes to generate cancer genetic test samples that reimbursed between $10,000 to $20,000 per sample. Through his laboratories, Satary billed Medicare for over $547 million. He also allegedly paid millions of dollars in illegal kickbacks and bribes to doctors and patient recruiters. In connection with the indictment, the government seized 16 bank accounts and restrained real estate from Satary.

I blame our government more than I blame fraudsters like this guy. Obviously he is to blame and I hope he goes to jail for a long, long time for his crimes, but when the government isn't a good steward over the money it takes from its citizens, changes need to happen.

On Saving Private Ryan one clerk with a typewriter can say "gee whiz didnt I just type a letter to this mother, wonder if there are others". (Im being facetious for you slow learners).
Yet with all our computer and AI information at our fingers and 1000s of employes cant say "Gee we cut half a billion in checks to this place, wow 10 grand seems a lot for a test, or 100K for a wheelchair seems a little extreme, or boy we suddenly have 50 times the norm for autism in this state, or shites the state of cali has 34% of all the assisted care places in the entire US".
The one good thing is at least the funds recouped wont be awarded to NGOs the way they were under previous administrations.

What always gets ignored in these massive medicare/aid fraud cases is the fact that these people were still important stakeholders in the medical service industry. It's not just the stolen money - what about the health consequences to innocent patients?
Given that this POS was running a half-billion dollar criminal enterprise does anyone trust that the legitimate genetic sequencing for cancer biopsies was performed correctly? That's an important step in the process. Look at that guy's picture. Does he look like he gives a shite about anything other than himself?
For all we know thousands of people suffered in agony and died because their treatment was placed in the hands of a foreign kleptocrat who had no business operating in this country.
