Yeah this sucks. I see vote Kelly and Trump 24 flags everywhere in Fairbanks but Anchorage will vote differently. This doesn’t surprise me

How so? Doesn't it allow the candidates with the most support to advance?

Considering Alaska has elected Senators with < 40% popular support over the past few years, I figured you guys would like a candidate that actually had the majority of the population supporting them.

His Xanax must be kicking in. I think earlier when he heard about Cheney he was sitting in the corner hyperventilating into a brown paper bag.

Wouldn't this mean both move forward to a head to head in the NOV general election? If so, not sure why this is "Not looking good for MAGA in Alaska". Being that top 2 is key in this round.

The Ranked voting system might have played in to these results

In ranked voting, everyone's vote counts. If their candidate is nixed (because they lack sufficient votes to advance), their votes go to their next ranked choice.

In this case Democrats will likely vote for Murkowski and Republicans will likely split depending on the candidate they initially voted for).

It indicates that Murkowski likely has more support (for the general election) then Tshibaka.

The results in question are first round. Ranked tabulation happens later.

While I do agree with this statement and think that bitch will unfortunately win in November…..
it could also be a result of it’s a primary that the top 4 advance to general election and a lot of people might not have went out to vote. And some democrats who might have voted will stay home with no real chance for the (D) candidate in November

Quite the contrary: Far more people have gone out to vote than in any previous year in history in Alaska.

I'll pull the figures from 2018, because the 2020 primary was basically unattended and it was a Presidential election year (vs current off year)

2018:
Primary:
Republicans voting in Primary: 63.4k
Democrats voting in Primary: 36k
Total voted in Primary; 99.4k

General election:
Republican: 145.6
Democrat 125.7
Total voted in general election: 271.3k

For comparison:
2020 General election figures:
Trump: 189,951
Biden: 153,778
Total: 343,729

Compare that to current data:

With 142,055 votes counted @ 60.5% reporting)
Lisa Murkowski 61,503 votes 43.3%
Kelly Tshibaka 58,257 votes 41.0%
Patricia Chesbro 8,810 votes 6.2%

Estimated voting is about 234k, which is massive for a primary. The main difference? Independents, which make up almost 40% of the Alaska registered voters can actually vote in the primaries to determine who represents them.

Palin is running for the House seat that Don Young held before his death.

It's much worse than that.

It makes the person's vote who honestly ranks candidates worth a lot less than the person who decides to vote in a win at all costs manner.

Even worse, it makes fraudulent votes injected into the system even more valuable for the same reason.

The important part is that Murkowski played a role in having the law changed because it would benefit her. These people have no shame. They will do anything they can to stay in power.
