Not everyone can pilot a 850 ft ship on one of the most dangerous waterways in the world.

Why do we not complain about an Athlete s salary but a River Pilot
It takes years working on the River
It does not cost us anything to pay them
A Degree fr a Maritime College to be considered
Not all Pilot s are family
No I am not a Pilot

True, but a lot of people with proper qualifications are not granted the opportunity due to nepotism.

Idea for a new political party - the Anti-Riverboat Pilot Party. It is the modern age Anti-Masonic Party.

If river pilots are trying to fish for hero status like nurses or teachers, they need to up their TikTok game.

Jesus. I think most semi intelligent people could be taught to do this.

If you actually had intelligent people do it, it might not be one of the most dangerous waterways in the world.

Instead these are prime jobs handed down in families or as a huge gift bestowed upon a political friend.

Yeah, and free government healthcare doesn't cost anything either.

The issue isn’t necessarily the salary, it’s the nepotism.

I’d be all for the state putting the guilds on notice that the nepotism setup ends, recruitment will be opened to all qualified people regardless of what family he or she is born into, and if they don’t like it, they can take their services to another body of water…oh wait, they can’t because of nepotism in those guilds.

I'd wager 80-90% of the posters on this board could be a pilot and I know more than a handful of them.

We love our captive, government-mandated monopolies that extort trade, don't we folks?
