PBS and NPR get only a tiny bit of their budget from the gvt.
LINK
On average, approximately 1% of NPR's annual operating budget comes in the form of grants from CPB and federal agencies and departments, excluding CPB funding for the Public Radio Satellite System (PRSS).

We have YoutTube TV. I found PBS. I wish I could tell you a channel number but YT TV doesn't have numbers.

Most all the shows I mentioned are corporate or foundation funded. I guess in order to get the write off, the shows have to appear on publicly funded tv?

How the heck do you find anything?
I don't know what network some stuff is on, I just know the channel number.
The Masters was on 803, and Live at the Master was on 827, for example. But my kids tell me I'm old , half senile and retarded, so there's that.
It gets fun when watch like.... Blue Bloods, The Office or NCIS. Hell, they are each on like 8 different channels, often at the same time.

I do like some ACL.
Also the Highwaymen, Willie Nelson' birthday bash, SRV Live... all that is on PBS. Well, not ONLY on PBS, but that's where it shows up most often during their fundraising months.

To be fair... that's the only way some of those get made.
It is and I recognize that. The artisan/craftsman shows? Love em.
That being said I can't come up with a reason they deserve public funding other than, "well, I like them."
PBS/NPR/Etc. put out good stuff sometimes. I still can't make a comprehensive argument as to why they should be publicly funded. Most shows in that realm focus on technique and tool. You can find that on YouTube. I'm not a "just Google it" guy but there are some seriously solid YT channels out there that do the same shite and more.

it's the only complaint I have with YouTube TV. the recommendations that pop up shows you routinely watch when they are live.

Just saying... pull the news funding... but some of the programming is worthwhile and deserves funding. At least start-up funding.
I get your argument about some of the good programming but in a day when some of the certifiably awful shite we see streamed/broadcast finds funding, I don't agree that programming doesn't find the light of day.

Divert those funds to tax payers.

Nothing stops these shows from living or dying on their own merit, rather than .gov printing money and handing it to them

That's why this doesn't matter at all. It will just be non-profit. It may go away in some rural or very sparsely populated areas, but it will still be around.

Perfect - then it doesn’t matter if you cut it, including the funding that goes to local stations.

They are state sponsored media that claims to rely on viewers like you.
If you are right they won't notice this.

We need to divert those funds to actual news orgs like Info Wars.
Like hell we do... we need to stop funding stupid shite all the way around...

I don’t mind having a PBS or NPR.
But I don’t want to pay for it.
If that means there’s not enough financial support to keep them going, then that’s a problem for people who listen and watch PBS and NPR.
