In any event, if someone actually holds that position, then they may be summarily dismissed without further consideration.
It would surprise me if "progressives" actually believe that way. I know some rather adamant self-identified progressives, and they certainly do not think that way.

They think they will always be in charge. Ergo, they don't fear all that consolidation of power being misused.
The beauty of capitalism is - you do well by making yourself of value to the society at large, either making things, fixing things, cleaning things or providing services to those that do.
The way to do well in a socialist state is to suck up to those in power.
One of those systems is clearly superior to the other if you want a surplus of goods, services, entertainment, innovation, etc. The price of that is that those who innovate or have rare talents command a higher price for their labor than folks whose skills limit them to cleaning, simple assembly, labor (I'm not derogating - this is all honest, necessary work), etc. So everyone does better under capitalism, but those at the top do much better. Socialists don't care how miserable everyone is as long as the gap between the haves and have nots is very small.

Not necessarily. Just remove the Theft statutes from the law books. You've then legalized theft by not having any legal prohibition on it.
