The South didn’t turn solid Republican until 2000. By then the switch was way more about stuff like abortion, fiscal policy, and it being clear the GOP was the party for Christian Americans as opposed to something intellectually dishonest people spout like racism.

Carter won a bunch of southern states in 1976 and Clinton won a bunch of southern states in 92 and 96.

2000 was our political realigning election. That was the first one with the clear divisions of the northeast, Great Lakes, and west coast solid democrat and the south and plains/mountain states solid republican. It wasn’t until 2016 when Trump cracked the Great Lakes.

Every older black person I talk to about politics they usually start with telling me they their mama told them to vote for the party that helps the people. Democrats have created the narrative that they help the people in need. No further investigation by the individuals after that.

^^^ That’s why most democrats are democrats is what I’ve found too, not just blacks

What’s happening now though, I believe thanks to social media, is democrats are finally questioning if democrats are helping or hurting people and democrats and democrat blacks are deciding the Democrat Party has been destruction to them and their family

People are waking up I think thanks to social media getting the wise voices out and crushing the propaganda of the Democrat Party

That’s crazy because every democrat i know irl practices the soft bigotry of low expectations and racism by claiming minorities can’t get into schools/jobs on merit alone & they can’t get even get an ID to vote, they’re THAT incapable.

This! For going on 60 years I’ve seen the Democrats treat black folk like ignorant little special needs children who can’t fend or think for themselves. Latinos are now getting the same treatment. The bar for success will continue to be lowered until it’s on the ground.

Nixon’s southern strategy
So here are the two sides I hear
Let's keep it real regarding "Nixon’s southern strategy".

In 1968 Nixon lost Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama, and Georgia.
In 1972, he won every state in the country except MA.

In 72 the South went all Nixon.

The whole country went Nixon in '72. The only state that didn't vote for Nixon was Massachusetts. The very next election cycle, the entire South went blue for Carter.

LBJ lost his first race in Texas. He didn't get the majority of black votes. LBJ stated after that loss that he would never be out -iggered again. Fill in the blank. He was a racist

I seriously doubt that. African Americans were not voting in Texas or anywhere else in the South when LBJ ran his first race.

What’s your source?

South is more religious than the religious country.

Democrats back demonic causes.

Nixon just gets the credit for what was going to happen eventually.

GOP is pro-corporation & pro-industrialization. This is a large reason why they were heavily anti-slavery.

The GOP holds those stances today.

The concept of "the switch" is a fabrication to whitewash the Democrat Party's sordid history.

There are always political opportunists - you can't take isolated examples to prove a "trend" or a "movement". Most Klansmen remained Democrat to the bitter fricking end.

Seems like Republicans are the ones doing all the race baiting, longing for the 'good old days' and threatening to take up arms if their boy loses the election. Dems just want to raise people up and move society forward.

Am I the only one on the planet who thinks Nixon was one of the best Presidents ever? Nixon didn't do anything that every other politician in Washington wasn't doing, he just got caught. Hell JFK was a much bigger crook than Nixon ever was.

It's amazing how spectacularly they've failed at that

They were just black Americans back then. They didn’t become African hyphens until later when Jesse Jackson coined the phrase to create political divisiveness and ran full steam ahead with today’s identity politic charade.
